I still only have 1 useful heavy (I guess I have not been doing enough 2.5 - 3 challenge missions). I know I got it from a random mission (had to fight a group of damaged heavies). Two of them were thunderbolts, and I was able to salvage a complete chassis. Really wanted to get the grasshopper or orion (which were both in the mission), but I only had 2 pieces of the grasshopper and 1 piece of the orion (ammo racked him which blew his mid with it). So I had to settle on the thunderbolt. It isn't bad, but just not that great either.

I have had a bunch of dragons, but they are worse than almost any decent mediums (so I have sold all but 1). I just changed up my shadowhawk (cut some rear armor, and dropped the LRM20 and lasers I had on it for 2 LRM15++ (crit and stability damage). My pilot I use in it has the first guts skill and the 2 gunnery skills (multi-target + breach shot). I am glad I decided to cut on the armor to fit another ton of ammo (4 tons total) because of the last mission I just did. He was raining missiles all match, and I was against 3 lances of mechs/vehicles (it was an ambush/trap which I realized the moment I was on the map and luckily made for a corner which had some good hills to be able to take cover, but had to take out the lance that was over there first).

Only had 1 mech go into structure one 1 part (a wolverine which had 3 of its 4 medium lasers in that location and I was down to 3 shots of LRMs with the wolverine which I had started to really ration halfway into the battle). Obviously the worst part was the beginning when I had one enemy lance in the direction I was going and another chasing at me from the middle of the map. Once I cleared the one lance and took up position in the corner, I was in a good spot strategically since most of the enemy mechs did not have jump jets and had to try and walk up the hills I was on, letting me focus fire them down. Was worried for my heavy since it was knocked down 2 times from missile fire, but its jump jets were enough to keep it from being primary target for multiple rounds. I was starting to bring my 2 missile support mechs out front to absorb a lot of the hits on cleaner armor than one my wolverine and the thunderbolt (which was armor maxed). But that was a tough mission as I was against 5 heavies (2 thunderbolts, 2 dragons, 1 orion), 2 wolverines, 2 centurions, 1 griffon, 1 cicada, 1 locust, and 2 80ton vehicles (behemoths?, they had at least 1 large laser each and/or PPC and missiles).

Just finished the mission to get the highlander.

One thing I found odd while playing that mission was that I couldn't generate heat on the highlander during the mission, but could easily on the other mechs.

All the heatsinks for the highlander were doubles, so assuming for some reason they didnt program the other mechs with them since you only got the highlander as a mission bonus. Going against that assault lance at the end would have been much easier with the improved tech if they were programmed with double sinks.

Having trouble finding good heavies and assault mech.
Me too. I got the Highlander and full salvaged the Battlemaster on the same mission, but I haven't even seen anything since then. I saw a Cataphract once since then, and a Grasshopper once before then. Otherwise the heaviest mechs I see are Orions.

Besides the highlander, have an Orion and 2 grasshoppers built and parts of a cataphract as my heavy+ mechs so far.

Got a reply from paradox on my support ticket. Looks like they're now saying they've seen enough similar instances from AMD users that they've forwarded the details to HBS.

An improvement from first guy saying there must be a problem with your computer. Now just have to wait and see how long till they're able to fix it.

Ok I just hate this: My lance has the last enemy mech badly wounded and almost dead. It has been knocked down; but it has higher initial than my heavy. He stands up; walks up to my un-damage heavy mech that has 3 bars of evasion takes a swing and delivers a lethal blow to the uninjured pilot.

What I hate is how CT damage almost kills your pilot. Had a grasshopper that had the CT blown through, and almost no damage elsewhere except one torso area. Pilot ended up laid out for 94 days with 4 hits.

Center itself shouldn’t? From what I’m seeing you get an injury for head hits (possibly lethal), losing a side torso, ammo explosion, and falling.

Unless I'm mis-remembering something, without ammo in your CT it's about impossible to die in the TT from just getting cored.

Got last piece to make a jaggermech last night. Dropped the 4 cannons for 2 ac10. This is my 3rd mech of 65+.

I've seen a pair of black knights and in my current fight there is an unknown 80ton beast out there I haven't yet identified. Things are racking up fast.

Still using 3 mediums... Can't get any decent heavies, just dragons which are an immediate sell. That said, I have not had much issues with pilot death (in fact I have not lost a single person yet in the campaign and only lost 1 mech (which I ejected from because there was no way to save it)). And yes I still have Dekker, who I think the game has a massive penalty on injury chance (even with piloting 10 and guts 8).

I think I focused on upgrading medical facilities pretty early on. Heck the only thing that isn't upgraded yet is my mech bay and the full automation. I guess I should complete some more of the story missions, maybe I will get better heavies to choose from...

My heavies appeared really quickly. For the longest time my A-Team lance was a Shadow Hawk, Vindicator, Centurion, and Firestarter. I did run a Dragon for a few missions, then added a Thunderbolt, and then pretty quickly (in just a few missions, it felt like) my main lance went to Orion, Thunderbolt, Grasshopper, Jagermech.

As far as losses... I would have lost my PC twice if she wasn't invincible, lol. Once in the Vindicator she turned her back on an unknown vehicle that turned out to be a Shrek PPC carrier and got cored. The other time her Thunderbolt's head got punched off by a Griffin that was completely disarmed. The only real casualty I've had is Glitch. She was driving that same Thunderbolt and got her head either shot or punched off, can't remember. Thought about save scumming to save her, but decided to suck it up and take the loss. I do miss her enthusiasm. 🙁

I just ran a few more story line missions, and got a highlander (which seems to be a reward), and salvaged a battlemaster. Both I believe can be setup decently (I kind of like the highlander already, but it has some room to be tweaked due to video game weapons heat vs TT heat). The Battlemaster needs some tweaks as well I think, but it is pretty good for this game with the medium lasers, but I may be dropping the PPC for more heatsinks/armor/missiles (it has SRM6 pack, which I will probably change to LRMs given the loss of the PPC).

Glad I beat the battlemaster the way I did (he made the mistake of walking on rough terrain, where I knocked him down and blew one of his legs (he was only able to get up and walk to one new spot, but still had the rough terrain in his movement for that turn and thus I knocked him down again and blew the second leg).

I had a chance at an awesome, but that mech seems horrible with the way the heat is. I don't think it even shot 2 PPCs in a single turn (maybe the first turn), and couldn't even fire 1 sustained over a 7 turn fight (there were 2 turns it had to just vent heat/stabilize, one of those turns I was sure I was going to lose one of my mediums because it couldn't take another PPC blast to the torso).

I left my Highlander mostly stock. I suppose it isn't exactly optimal, but I like the long range punch of the Gauss and overall it's multirole capability suits my current lance. I switched the Battlemaster to full mlas boat, with slas and kept the SRM.

I just got the Highlander today. It’s basically stock, I just dropped the LRM20 for a LRM15 so I could max out the support slots with small lasers, add armor, and a TTS to help with gauss rifle sniping. Wish the game didn’t bias so heavily towards close range brawls.
