Games on Steam are different than games on consoles. Games on Steam don't take up shelf space and are sold unto infinity. A Steam sale is a speck in the shelf life of a Steam-published game.

Games on consoles go into and out of print.

apples, oranges

I also rented TLoU. I rent most of my console games actually. 60 dollars is a horrible value, I'm sorry I have priorities :|

$60 is a horrible value in your opinion. Other people probably disagree. I think seeing a movie in theaters is a much worse value; tickets, snacks and a drink for two can easily creep north of $40 for a couple hours of entertainment. For 50% more, I can get 60+ hours of entertainment (depending on the game, obviously). I figure if I pay less than $1 an hour and I've been properly entertained, it hasn't been a waste of money.

Then again, I buy less than ten titles a year, and a number of those are Steam sales, so I will agree with you that I feel most games probably aren't worth $60. Still, someone must be buying them all, and the big critically acclaimed blockbusters (ie, The Last of Us or GTA V) I generally feel are worth the price.

I dunno how people can say this. I am super excited about killer instinct, forza 5, killzone, even knack. Do you guys just play really niche games or hype machine games like GTA and last of us? I am not trying to be sarcastic or make a snide remark I genuinely want to know what type of gamer you are because it will help me understand your viewpoint better.

RPG, adventure, survival horror, basically stuff with heavy narrative/story and lotsof exploration. Its all I ever played even in the 16 bit days.

FPS hybrids and platformers that share any similar elements (inventory, exploring, quests, heavy story, coop, some sense of a fantasy story and epic adventure etc) are also game despite my being vocally anti shooter. Fallout 3, Borderlands, Bioshock, all EXCELLENT.

I'm just tired of generic military warfighter simulation shooters, sports games, racing games, etc. I did actually play shooters like Battlefield 2, Quake 3, etc before shooters got out of hand and played out. Never cared for sports or racing games, I can do those outside.

I may pick up Knack just because new is refreshing.

Killzone? Halo like dude bro shooter?
Ryse? Brimming with testosterone, CoD with swords basically
Forza? I have a real car with 700 HP.

Killer Instinct? MS attempt at abusing Rare to try and bait people to XBone with a once good IP. Let me know when its a full budget real game with a physical copy and not just some DLC scam. If they cut the leash on Rare and let them also make Conker, Banjo Kazooie, etc and new IP of their own instead of forcing them to make Kinect crap, I might bite, but until then I won't forgive them for snuffing Rare in the typical "buy the competition and let it rot" way that MS is known for.

I'm just not that interested in cheesy shooters and sports/race/fighters to begin with let alone rehashes, ports, and quarterly refreshes.

At least when Final Fantasy was last good, each game wasn't just the old game with more items or some lame sequel, it was an ENTIRELY different game from ground up. Of course Square had to go and kill the whole franchise now. Expecting XIII-3,4 and 5 to be announced any day...

What does this mean?

Buying individual characters? Digital only?

Give me a full production $59 disc made by Rare and ONLY Rare and not some cheap $5 quickie MS ploy digital bait they want just so they can claim a popular exclusive.

Killer Instinct deserves to be its own major release and not just some last minute digital cookie crumb.

You obviously haven't been following anything KI related. Sure, it is a F2P DLC based game, but it is, at it's core, a real fighting game. And $20 gives you the full launch roster. Your argument is like saying LoL isn't a complete game because you have to buy heroes.

And digital only complaint is pretty stupid. You can't resell a F2P game. This is the future, get over it.

Your entire stance of "omg it isn't a game made for 11 year old Japanese kids or is really popular, therefore I hate it and it sux!" is pretty stupid.

Oh, you have a 700hp car? You must be so proud! The idea of not playing a certain game type because you have a fraction of the experience they are emulating is really stupid. There are hundreds of cars in Forza you will never have the chance to drive, and especially not in the way you get to drive them in the game. Are you against any game involving shooting because you could easily head on over to Somalia or Syria and have a slightly similar experience?

I don't even...

I don't even...

What is there to understand? His argument against getting Forza was he has a 700hp car, which I assume is a Mustang, so it isn't even a car you want to drive IN Forza, let alone real life.

I have an AR-15 in real life, should I avoid BF4 because I can go to a range and shoot my real gun and the experience is slightly similar to shooting a vast number of weapons I don't have the money to illegally purchase and participating in combat situations I don't wish to enter due to the real risk of death?

Do I refrain from playing basketball games because the park down the street has a court I can go play on?

It's just a stupid point to argue to begin with. I can't believe you tried to rationalize it lol.

Do I refrain from playing Dead or Alive games because there are plenty of plastic surgeons who can give me a boob job? Of course not. I refrain because Dead or Alive games were terrible.

I'm sorry, what were we talking about?

rare has absolutely nothing to do with killer instinct on xbox one...

So much to comment on here.

$60 for sometimes a hundred hours of entertainment is great value. Very few hobbies offer this type of value for your dollar.

Rare is not doing Killer Instinct on the XB1, the game is a full game. It's just digital and happens to be selling for $20 much like an indie title would. Except this particular game has production values that would give many publishers reason to sell it for $60. The value here is pretty big IMO.

Driving cars in a game has zero to do with real life. Unless you are a professional driver with a team and sponsors, you aren't going to be racing an Audi R10 TDI at Leguna Seca. People play racing games because they enjoy them. They enjoy modifying the cars and getting as close as possible to the experience of driving a million dollar car around the track. There's also the competitive aspect of racing your friends and challenging their best times.

Exdeath you call every shooter dudebro but that's just not true. Dudebro doesn't apply to everything. Maybe in your small world it does, but not every game is made with the whole mindset put in place by recent CoD releases. There's a ton of depth to some of the FPS games out there if you are willing to approach them with an open mind. Not every game will be from Japan and have you playing a characher who saves the world. There are less and less of these types of games for a reason, they just don't sell here. I'll admit I enjoy some JRPGs but I tend to consider myself a pretty well rounded gamer in terms of what I am willing to play and what I can enjoy. Open mindedness is all it takes and there's a whole world of games to play. Not every FPS is bereft of challenge, deep story, interesting characters, and depth. Surely they aren't all made for the e-sports generation either.

I know it's Call of Duty but Ghosts runs @ 1080p on PS4 and 720p on Xbone so looks the same again here too.

http://www.theverge.com/2013/10/30/5047710/call-of-duty-ghosts-on-xbox-one-will-only-run-at-720p

The thing with that is, if both are running the exact same effects and just rendering at a different resolution, nobody will be able to tell the difference. Same draw distance, same AA, same res textures; it won't really matter. Both are confirmed to run at 60FPS. BF4 doesn't, which is strange.

But, I'm sure there will be someone out there who takes a screen shot, and then gives instructions on how if you turn the TV contrast to exactly 77.4% and have a dimly lit room, when you tilt your head to the side 34 degrees left and are wearing glasses with anti glare coating, you can obviously see how superior the PS4 looks.

All jokes aside, nobody except nerds on some tech forums are going to care. Ask the average Xbox / PS3 player what their games run at. "Well, my Tv is 1080p, so 1080p!

Oh looking at that gif... you can see right away the difference, I don't understand why they'd go with 720p anywyas, 900p isn't that much different than 1080p (when I play a PC game @ 1600x900 it isn't that far off from 1920x1080 anyways). The minimap on the lower left corner in the gif image of the XBone is blurry as hell.

Man, it's almost as if you guys have never played Battlefield. I've always thought huge maps and draw distance has been a mainstay of the series since BF2. And you need good resolution to really experience it.

Okay, yeah, all that's been pointed out is stairstep powerlines and jaggy scaffolding. But you know what, you really will notice it a lot more when it's an enemy on top of a building, or down the street. It matters a lot, and a lot more when the image is actually moving. There's a lot of diminishing returns at play here in terms of money:res, and obviously the PS4 seems to be pretty high up there in those terms.

But I think 1600x900 is too low, and 1280x720 is just unplayable garbage. I think DICE should have delayed it a month (if it was a matter of fine tuning performance), or just dropping the quality a little and giving us at least 1080P on the PS4. But I don't know, maybe that would have been not feasible.

720P is just a mess. Yuck.

I remember trying to play BF3 on the X360, it didn't last long- most disgusting lack of AA ever and it was what 600p? I thought the next gen consoles are supposed to have AA.

I get a kick of up-scaling being mentioned all the time, in comments and articles. "720p up-scaled to 1080p". Lol. Just say 720p, the up-scaled part is trivial and irrelevant. Everything less than a TV's resolution is up-scaled. "Yeah, I am watching 480p broadcast TV up-scaled to 1080p."

The screenshots clearly show that the Xbone version is significantly inferior to the PS4 one. Lol. Rather expected though.

That Cell CPU must have really been all they said it was back in 2004 if it can beat an unreleased XBone.😛

Ah now I remember why I had a 360 first even though Ive grown to loathe it now next to my PS3 this final year. PS3 was all hype and no substance for at least the entire first year. How many times did they revise it? Wasn't it supposed to have like 4 HDMI ports and support quad 1080p display blah blah blah? LMAO

Weak Analogy

Straw Man

Appeal to Popularity

Well like I said I see no difference and it all matters how close and how big your tv is. Sitting far away from my 32 inch tv I won't notice which has more or better pixels. I think both systems look great.

The author of that article is a paid shill, delusional fanboy, or hypocrite.

Here's what he has written in the past, before his bank account reflected his change of opinion:

[...] In general, people in the market for a game console want something that is going to make the most use of the expensive flat-screen TV and surround sound entertainment centre they've invested in. In that environment, consumers are less likely to skimp on the actual gaming hardware and more likely to go for something that they can really show off, even if it costs a bit more.

What I find funny is during the current gen, when multiplatform titles were compared and there was very minor things different to small res difference every hailed the 360 as so much better. Now we have the PS4 doing a vastly higher res than the X1 and suddenly it is "people wont notice" lol
