March Cover Revealed: Battlefield 3

gami_215_front.jpg

The franchise that revolutionized online multiplayer for PC games is back.

In our world-exclusive cover story, Game Informer unveils the first numbered entry in the Battlefield series since 2005. Many longtime fans are wondering, "what took so long?!" DICE has honed the concept for the true sequel for years, but it wasn't until the company developed the powerful new Frostbite 2 engine that it felt all the pieces were in place to create a proper follow-up. Armed with powerful upgrades like deferred rendering, real-time radiosity, a new animation system borrowed from the EA Sports label, and an exponential leap in destructibility, executive producer Patrick Bach dubs Frostbite 2 "the best piece of technology on the market when it comes to building games."

You'll have to read the magazine to get the dirt on what DICE has in store for the single-player and multiplayer modes, but check back here and visit the official Battlefield 3 site tomorrow to watch the premiere teaser trailer and glean a few more key details.

Frequent the Battlefield 3 hub throughout the month of February for more exclusive features about the highly anticipated shooter coming to the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PC.

smart of them to announce the 1943 PC and onslaught cancellation to coincide with BF3 announcement so that they'll forget about the cancellations.

I wonder if the EA Sports animation thing has anything to do with dolphin diving and the common idea that you can put in an animation that makes going prone take a certain amount of time to accomplish.

Also, I wonder if the exponential increase in destruction has anything to do with the fact that BF2 has a lot bigger buildings in it. Especially if that Game Informer cover is accurate.

Prone, jets and 64 for PC is a great start. I might actually be able to relax a bit if they confirm equippable knife/no auto aim knife, commo rose, and few other critical items!

:hmm: I wonder if that means they have changed how reviving works (tkaes longer so you better be behind cover)

Yeah, I saw that but it didn't hit me what it could mean. Hell, 15 seconds is a huge enough respawn timer when you're ready to get back in and get revenge.

Or, maybe it means that your respawn timer will be delayed only if you are being dragged. That could work.

Battlefield 3 Limited Edition is $49.95 from the EA Store. Part of EA's strategy to be #1? Or does DICE have the power within EA to set thier own prices?
And think, MOH was $60...

About time they put prone in. Hopefully its not buggy like their previous attempt. Now if they'd only fix their sprint. Also the guns didn't feel very precise in BC2.
