I already physically host heatware, why not host this as well. Maybe I can get a title as "Offical Anandtech Hosting Boy" :)

This would be cool.... just password protect it and that should keep most smacktards out. Unfortunetly I don't get a great ping on GeekishThought's server so I'm all for another one

geekishthoughts, I couldn't find your server last night. Was it up? Do I have to go to Gamespy to get to it or will it just show up inside the game's server list (are they one in the same?).

I don't know if he has the ports for Gamespy open or not. Just got to add IP and type in the IP and click join and it should find it.

Also remember he takes it down during the day I'm not sure starting at what time though

I thought it was called AT and would be listed, thus no need to type in the IP address. Well, I will look back through the thread to find it and enter it directly. In anycase, neomits, I'm coming after you :D:p

yeah you can enter IP's with that and its a bit faster (uses a LOT of resources for a game browser) but still a good system IMHO

hmm thats still not fixed in gamespy. Can you add servers and get all the info using ASE? My only issue with ASE is that I already paid for gamespy3d.

vi_edit's server isn't up yet just so you know. So every server program will time out on that.

We are all tired of the morons...
Vi_edit has a processor on the way, if that fell through I still think we would have more than enough
support from our members to work something out in the hardware department.
I also think their is enough people to make it a password protected server.
Hope it all comes together.
Let us know if we can be of assitance!

I really appreciate Geekish Thoughts' server. I think the problem is too many users saturating the line more than direct ping. I get great pings on his server until it gets really full.

Geekish: avg ping 25ms
vi_edit: avg ping 52ms
Evil_Avatar: avg ping 101ms

Based on just those numbers, playing on Geekish Thoughts' server would be better but as he's stated it's his provider connection that gets overloaded. I don't know if others are going to have better results or not.

too bad its not like CS where you can make half of the slots reserved for a password and half of them not

Weird thing happened today. My ESC key wouldn't work to let me out of the game. I tried killing myself, running off the map, suicide, whatever and the ESC key still wouldn't work. Finally figured out how to do it at the console. Type "exit".

I found that out tonight too... "quit" I think works as well.
They really should release a complete list of the console commands... not just what was in the readme.

I want the console command to keep that intro stuff from loading up everytime I start the game.
In Dungeon Siege there is a command to skip that stuff and bring you straight to the start menu.

Atrail you don't need console commands for that :)
Go into your C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 1942\Movies folder
and rename
Dice.bik
EA.bik
and
Intro.bik
Then when you start up you'll see the legal.bik and then it goes to the main menu... even if you rename legal.bik there will still be the 3 sec pause while it "displays" it.
