In keeping with the topic title, I've made my list. Being on the list doesn't mean that the bands completely suck or are worthless, just aren't deserving of the reputations that they have. Some of them I'm really familiar with and can judge more critically, others are bands that I've heard maybe 5 or so songs from and can't stand.

Bands/Artists with whom I am very familiar:

KISS
U2
Madonna
Limp Bizkit
Pink Floyd (I know I'll take some flak for that)

Bands/Artists with whom I am not as familiar, but am told are wonderful:

System of a Down
DJ Tiesto
Blink 182
Pink
The Black Eyes Peas

Pshhh.. Pink Floyd is f*cking amazing.
DJ Tiesto isn't a band, he's a DJ ;) I've heard a few songs by him that I really like, I've heard a few I don't like too though. He's sold out enormous stadiums so apparently a lot of people like him.

U2's old stuff was amazing

by that logic Metallica should be there as well

I don't either. The album War is one of my all time favorite albums.

Well, that song definitely fucking blows. U2 hasn't done anything interesting since the early 90s IMO but their earlier stuff is great.

It's also difficult to parody as many different styles of music as he does, and do them all well. Rewriting lyrics, reworking arrangements, then nailing vocal styles. Even if you entirely discount his original songs, Al Y is one talented, hard-working musician.

No Doubt (what a bunch of crap)
Nirvana (who cares)
U2 (way over-hyped)
Fergie (for the love of God, please stop)
Kiss (a fancy package with little substance)
Creed, Nickel back, etc... (STFU)
Marilyn Manson (go back into obscurity whence you came)
Linkin Park, Greenday, My Chemical Romance, etc (just end yourselves already)
Avril Lavigne, Celin Dion, etc... (why? just stop)
Boy Bands ('nuff said)

there are more but I am getting nauseated thinking about them.

I'm not going to change someones mind and people aren't going to change mine, so what's the point? There isn't one.

You may as well ask, "What's the point of OT?" The point is that OT is that it is beside the point, a place for pointless threads, such as this one.

37,150 OT posts, and you needed someone to POINT that out to you?

I didn't need you point anything out to me. I offered up my opinions on opinions. 11,175 posts and you needed someone to POINT that out to you?

(and not all my posts are OT, smartass...although an overwhelming majority of them are)

Oooooo, useless and feisty, the perfect poster girl for jibbering idiots everywhere. :p

Alright Legend, who do you think is very influential, deserving of their fame?

Weird Al.

Weird Al doesn't write his music.......

Um, yeah, he does, and quite well.

he writes lyrics. not music.

big difference.

Look, I'm telling you, I know Weird Al's catalog and he also does original songs to which he writes the music.

Weird Al is actually a very skilled, and classically trained musician. If you've ever seen footage of him in a recording studio, it's rather phenomenal the depth of knowledge of music and music history, combined with his ear for music and arrangement abilities.

Not to mention his incredible facility with the accordion.

Lately, most of the bands are wasted. The latest albums are just crap. The one that mostly pops to my mind is System of a Down. They were good, but...well, they were.
I agree with Greenday, Nickelback, Limp Bizkit, Linkin Park, U2. But they weren't necessarily huge. The beatles were huge. I'm not to crazy about their songs, but I think they deserved it for their time.
Heh, if it was up to me, I'd say Elvis. But I'd get killed right away. Still, listening to his songs, I never got why he was the best, the king and all. He was good, but the king? Hm...neah. Maybe because he was the first, but still...

I think that's the key. I don't care that much for his performances, but he was pretty important.
