Bands that sound good on CD but suck live...

I'm giong to go see System of a Down in a few weeks in LA live, I heard some of their other live stuff and some of it sucked. The problem is they layer their instruments on top of each other so they have like 3-4 guitars playing at once on the mastered CD, but when they play live they don't bring extra players.

all bands do this. system of a down actually do very little of it compared to most.

i never go to a show expecting to hear the CD. if i want to hear the CD, i can play it at home and it will sound much clearer. i'm there to see something different, hopefully spontaneous, and feel the energy. all bands sound worse live than in the studio but good live bands make up for it with energy and passion and improvisation.

i am not gonnna say Blink absolutely blow live, but they are really not that good. They are below avg (like a D+/C- grade). Blur use to be really good live (before the Blur album), but from what I heard, they are horrible now.

Blink sucks live or on cd. SOAD is bad live IMHO. Seen them 3-4 times at various festival type events.

Moby was good live when I saw him, as were The Offspring the 3 times I've seen them.

Yea Blink was the first one that I thought of when I read the title. I think its because they do so much cheap crap on the cd's, like play it all seperate and its a lot easier..LAMERS

Wanna know what sounding good live is all about? Go see a Supertramp concert. I'm not kidding. They can make an arena sound better than any sound room with audiophile equipment I've ever heard.

That's not totally true. I saw Yngwie Malmsteen and the singer sounded just as good as, if not better than, the CD. Also Dream Theater rocked pretty good too. I think the more your music group depends on image (like many of today's groups, Blink 182, Evanescence(sp?), other listed here) the worse you are live b/c you aren't as good as musicians as others. Groups that are pure musicians (Yngwie, Metallica?, Dream Theater, Eagles) sound great live b/c they are true musicians not just a bunch of MTV promoted c*ck holsters.

The Red Hot Chili Peppers sucked pretty badly live.

Some of the better live performances I've seen are Incubus, Dave Matthews Band and Jack Johnson.
