The only reason I am not locking this thread is because it is about bacon. Mmmmm... Bacon.

Microwaves wreck the nutritional value of bacon, destroying the vitamins.

Frying pan is best. Microwave is okay in a pinch. Like when the BLT urge hits and you just can't wait.

I like bacon in the frying pan, the texture of the bacon is consistent when cooked this way. In microwave you get some crunchy parts and then that one piece of fat that didn't get cooked enough.

Nope, M/W bacon is okay when one is short on time, but fried in a pan is better IMO :)

depends. I started a bacon thread some time ago about how I had migrated completely to the microwave.

However!

I have since discovered:

1. depends on the bacon
2. depends on location.

I had migrated to microwave while still in Chicago. the technique I had developed worked flawlessly.
After moving to the Bay area and going through ~8 packages of standard COSTCO bacon, the microwave technique does not produce the same quality that I was getting in Chicago; while frying pan is flawless.

Summary: YMMV

either way, I believe that broiler + drip pan may indeed be the best overall method.

further testing is required.

I make bacon in the oven. Put it on a wire rack in a baking pan, set it to 400, and let it go until it's done how you like it.

You can experiment with some additional flavor too. I drizzle a little bit of honey on it during the last few mins. Takes on a nicer color and the sweetness goes well with it.

for those that distrust the microwave, thi is what worked for me--FLAWLESSLY with the Treasure Island, Chicago bacon:

1.5 slices nestled between two paper towels, on Melmac plate, microwave full power rotating for 1:20.

2. flip bacon, replace paper towel. microwave 1 minute.

Tits

Sharp "Carousel" microwave c. 1998. sorry, no amperage data :(

again, YMMV.

dammit the only way is to fry, tilt pan use spatula to hold bacon on one side and let grease go to other, let grease drip in another pan, flip and repeat. Mmm...

microwaved bacon is so much less messy.

also, have you tried the already cooked - heat for 5 seconds a slice in the microwave bacon yet?

Put bacon in cast iron skillet. Place in pre-heated oven (next to other good stuff) and bake for ~15 minutes.

don't knock it till you've tried it. bacon is the nectar of the gods. and as such, demands a full palate of cooking methods.

Bacon is supposed to be crispy. Microwave = no crisp = fail
