I would occasionally use the turbo button back in the day for those poorly built games that would go into super-overdrive on faster hardware. After the turbo button went extinct, I got by a bit longer by disabling cache memory to play the older games - that alway caused a drastic reduction in performance, usually enough to get those games to play at normal speed.

The button was likely never connected to the motherboard, that was very common to do later on.
 
Had a PC with a Turbo button that was always on.

Also had a Radio Shack Color Computer 1, which had a turbo poke.

yea! the 286! windows 3.1x best OS ever! had a bunch of great games on there, print shop pro worked best in turbo mode. i don't remember what the OC was though. i still have it and it still works. needs a format of the 1gig hd and a fresh install though. windows does not boot anymore.

486 DX/2 66, with the green LED display that showed 66, and would go down to 33 if you turned turbo off. When my dad was buying it, I insisted that the computer had to have the LED display and the turbo button.
 
Ya, we had one on some computers when I was in high school. Had that sucker lit up while playing Gorillas during math class.
