Bachman Claims HPV Vaccine causes mental retardation!

Again I am forced to wonder why our only choices come election day are between either a fiscal conservative religious nut job or a social liberal who can't balance a checkbook?

goddamn you americans have to put up with some wackjobs in politics..

sorry Bachman, you were retarded before you got the vaccination, you can't blame that on science.

Hey, with George W Bush we got someone who was in bed with the religious nutjobs AND who demonstrated reckless fiscal irresponsibility. Best of both worlds!

She's a fucking buffoon. Another anti-vaccine nutjob. I'd vote for Palin before I voted for her.

How sad is it when you realize that both COULD be options to choose from, however unikely? The fact they are given such a voice is really sad.

And Bachmann appears to have been vaccinated against the truth. Amazing the BS that flies from her mouth.

The good old GOP, the anti-science party...

The GOP really needs to expunge these extremist views and come back to the center. I realize that during these primaries they are playing to their base but I cannot believe that a majority of republicans actually buy all this anti-science stuff.

Yeah, not too bright. An over the top unsubtantiated claim should not be repeated by a Presidential contender...or anyone for that matter but especially poor judgement for someone wanting the highest position in America.

Being a whackjob Fund A Mental Case will do that to a person

Bachman's got NO real shot (I sincerely hope). Otherwise, my last shred of respect for the populace may be out the window.

Would you please point out where in that video Bachmen said the vaccine causes retardition. I couldn't find the statement.

The thread title should be "Bachmen talks about woman that claims vaccine made her daughter retarded". Try to be a little honest please.

...as supporting evidence for why the vaccine is bad. The title is fine.

Check out places like Michael Dunn Center - they provide residential habilitation for children and adults who among other things have suffered severe health effects from vaccines. During the time I was indirectly associated with them (my sister-in-law worked there) most of the kids and adults there were victims of vaccines, not only retardation but also severe MS-like motor control damage. As I understand it, the damage is caused not by the vaccines themselves, but rather by very high fevers caused by idiosyncratic reactions some individuals have.

This is of course no indictment on vaccines in general; their effect is overwhelmingly beneficial, and they save countless lives and much misery. Polio for instance, one of the most horrible of diseases, is on track to possibly be wiped out completely; the worldwide Rotary clubs have made this one of their core issues. And it's not a vindication of Bachmann; I'm not a particular fan of this program, but I'd guess it saves many more lives than it destroys. But it's worth keeping in mind that nothing made by man is without hazard.

For that matter, nothing made by G-d is without hazard. One of my high school friends drowned in ankle-deep water and they never figured out why. Life is dangerous, and no one gets out alive.

Are you kidding?

Bachmann claimed this happened and repeated it like she agreed with it.

You are defending her terrible behavior.

Take your pick - she either had a woman say this to her and repeated it in her campaign without fact checking, or she made up the story. Either is bad.

Remember, this woman Bachmann was the tea party front runner before Perry.

It shows what kind of candidate they support. They're a very different America.

Before, it was 'fluoride in the water is a communist plot'.

Now, it's 'climate change isn't proven' and an attack on vaccines to get Perry.

To be fair, Robert Kennedy Jr. thought a vaccine causes autism - but it was a more honest mistake based on mistaken but not ignoring science.

Gary Johnson. Look him up.
I understand crazy people like Bachmann and Perry make great news but that isn't who we need in charge.

If we actually manage to elect an idiot like Bachmann, we might as well pack it up and announce that this grand experiment in representative democracy that is the USA is a failure.
