I don't see the point in this rule at all. Not at all.

Furthermore, ALL the OT subforums have RUINED OT. OT used to be fun and busy.

If the mods don't want to deal with heavy traffic and lots of posts, maybe they shouldn't mod?

AT is a computer/tech site. ANY topic that is not computer/tech related should be allowed in OT. That's what OFF topic means. Maybe keep P&N separate, but that's it.

Breaking up the social forums reduces traffic to each post, and reduces interaction, thus KILLING the forums.

The forums ain't what they used to be and interaction in OT is only a tiny fraction of what it was back in the day. Traffic is what you need since you are an advertising supported site. And from what I see, OT traffic is WAY down. And it drops with every new rule and forum division. It's pretty damn insulting and annoying to post something in an OT forum and have it locked because it's not the CORRECT OT forum. WTF???

If killing the forums was your goal, you are succeeding wildly. Stop listening to the whiny little babies who bitch about nefs in their car/GF/babe post or crying about YOxx posts and realize that by giving in to every squeaky wheel you are limiting forum activity and destroying what brought people to OT in the first place.

Let's return to OFF TOPIC being anything that is not computer related and focus the mods attention to basic civility and keeping nude links off. Anything else is just killing this place. AT is feeling like a rude lesson in topic filing rather than a place to chat and share info. You've made a rule to cover just about every minor annoyance and whining, and in the process driven away a HUGE amount of traffic.

And what is wrong with that? I was talking about how her eyes are creepy as hell and I mentioned that she was attractive and had a fake rack. SO WHAT? Can't I not be honest? Hell, the pics I posted weren't even suggestive or appalling -- just simply closeups of her crazy eyes.

I can talk about her eyes, but not her fake rack? Where do you draw the line? Can I say that she has "pretty hair" but not talk about her legs? And I now have to be responsible for everyone else's comments in a thread as well?

ANY thread about an attractive woman is gonna bring out unruly comments, it's just a fact of life. But to ban all threads because of it is downright ridiculous. That's not what ATOT used to be about and things seemed pretty fine back in the day as well.

Hell, why don't you guys just ban threads on religion. Those threads are just as crazy sometimes. Or lets ban threads on guns or race relations. It's too taboo.

Amen brother, I hear you loud and clear. This place just isn't the same anymore. This new "system" has effectively killed any kind of social interaction that made the forums great.

ATOT was once a place where EVERYONE mingled to talk with one another and talk about a broad range of subjects. Now that every different subject is split into its own forum with hardly any traffic whatsoever, that "bond" has been broken.

Now we have to cater to idiots who are using work computers to browse the forums and are too stupid to lookout for a tag that says "Possibly NSFW".

Why not just stop banning every little annoyance?

So damn what if someone talked about her rack??? Men talk about women. So what???

That's what men do. Banning it here isn't going to stop it and nanny-ruling the forums is KILLING this place.

It would be nice to go back to the way things were in the early 2000s. The forums were far more interesting and traffic was many times what it is now.

Another RANT:

SCREW NSFW!!!

Why the hell are you surfing a SOCIAL forum on someone else's dime any how? I have NO pity for you. Have some common sense.

If your work is so anal about being PC and monitors your web use, then your best bet is to stay away from social forums altogether.

Let's see, they care about someone talking about nasty stuff or slightly dirty pics, but not about you wasting thousands of man hours a year gabbing on a social forum??? And so many whiners here complain that "the man" is keeping them down...

Let's see. What posts most often devolve into babe threads? How about posts that involve ENTERTAINMENT.

ENTERTAINMENT would involve anyone who is in any way in the public limelight, from rock stars, to movie stars, to strippers, to cheerleaders to football players.

OT has for some time had a huge number of posts involving specifically ENTERTAINMENT.

If these types of posts are constantly devolving into babe threads, and they frequently do for obvious reasons (because butt ugly don't become famous usually in the first place) then these posts all need to be lumped into their own category.

Also every time a new movie comes out, we have multiple posts on the same movie sometimes occurring for weeks later, such as with Batman, and I think the spam in OT would be MUCH less if all of these ENTERTAINMENT posts were removed from this area. And it would also be much easier to look for a recent post on a new or old flick or a recent sports event if they were all in the same spot in the first place, and not buried under a thousand other posts in OT 1 day after posting.

While I also agree that too many sub forums are a bad idea, the purely ENTERTAINMENT forum has been needed around here since these forums started.

so, why do mods show obvious favoritism and have banned some people for posting babe threads, and not others?

i.e. NFS4 posts a babe thread: not banned
rudeguy posts a pic: is banned
Skoorb posts a babe thread: isn't locked or banned
JohnCU posts a psuedo-babe thread, is locked and banned

you missed noting that one of the moderators also received a vacation in your summary, as well as several members. Skoorb's thread, like NFS4's thread weren't really meant to be "babe" threads. NFS4's quickly turned into one, while Skoorb's somehow managed to actually have a somewhat civilized conversation for OT. You guys wonder why these forums are 95+% male - these babe threads are just one of the things that many women find offensive about the place. Some put up with it or ignore it, the rest go elsewhere. They don't want to read comments like "I'd DHITB" -DrPizza

BTW-I said basically the same thing on page 1 of this thread.

Just as I almost never post in the consumer electronics forums either...and I have a lot to offer but it's a waste of time because nobody ever posts there. This is OT, everything not related to computer operating systems, hardware or politics and news should be here IMO. I preferred it that way because there were so many wide ranging topics and so many people posting here. Hell, I submit a post in digital and video cameras and I might get 10 views in a day. In OT I'd get 10 times that in an hour easily...or at least I would have in the past.

Biggest mistake ever was splitting up the forums IMO.

See here? This is exactly what is WRONG. So freakin what if you see multiple posts on one movie??? How is this harming you? The more intersting a subject is, the more it will be talked about. And if someone wants to talk about one specific point of a subject why the hell can't he have his own thread????

Trying to resolve every little annoyance is exactly what is KILLING these forums.

Get OVER IT people!!!

And no way in HELL do I support yet ANOTHER fracturing of the OT forum to include a separate "entertainment" forum. It is this very micromanaging logic (or lack thereof) that has destroyed what OT once was.

No offense, Slick. You're new here and haven't seen what OT was both before and after all the new forums and rules. But OT was a MUCH more interesting and engaging place before the forums were split and every little annoyance was addressed. Ideas like yours and whining about mutiple posts on one subject is whats KILLING these forums.

Look, I come from a long line of geeks, and one thing that seems inherent to most geeks is micromanagement and trying to control every little aspect of something. The most liberating thing life has taught me is that doing this is counterproductive in both business, and social lives. It just drives people away.

And the micromanagement of these forums has done just that. Traffic and posts are WAY, WAY, WAY down from when I first started posting here.

Sometimes the best way to fix something is to leave it the fsck alone.

Exactly. There are so MANY reasons why this forum is mostly male it's not even funny.... the LEAST of which is rude behavior or men being men.

OMG... dream on. The BIKER formus have more women than this place and I dare say they'd give your twisted sense of chivalry a good scare over there.

This forum's makup looks like any geek computer forum. The vast majority of computer geeks are male. This forum always has, and always will have a very low interest for women because of it's very nature.

Time to face reality: You are NOT going to bring women here with what you guys have been doing lately, DrPizza. All you're accomplishing is killing the forums and dropping traffic dramatically.

The truth comes out. The mods are trying to turn AT unto a freakin sewing circle.

I have to say, I agree with Amused and NFS4. I don't care about the whole Babe thread issue as much as I think the splitting of the forums was a bad idea and it has turned ATOT into a shell of its former self.

And as for the the argument that such threads drive away the women, I have to wonder how many would really otherwise be here anyway....

Yea, I'm going to attest to that. All the motorcycle forums I've gone to have had plenty more women than here. That is with plenty of biker chick threads, discussions on umbrella girls for races and constant leghumping of the females that exist there.

The females are used to it and the ones that get "offended" away would leave anyway because of the way internet forums are. Hell, go to literotica forums, I'm sure they have TONS more women than AT and things are a whole lot more sexual over there.

I remember not being able to keep up with OT traffic, now I'll actually get bored and go elsewhere during my day at work. Yes, I agree. If you're browsing at work and might get in trouble for a bikini/half naked picture, you SHOULDN'T BE BROWSING ATOT!

I would take a gander that many of the women who are here fall into three categories:

1) Women who have been here since the early days of ATOT and know how rude and crude we guys can be and they tolerate it -- in other word, they're "Just one of the guys"

2) Women who have been dragged into ATOT by their significant others and have grown to like the place. Given that they know that their husbands are computer nerds/geeks, they know what goes on with these kinds of forums.

3) Women who have stumbled across ATOT and are getting their feet wet with the experience and may be a little offput by the atmosphere -- somewhat understandable.

However, I don't see why we should be dumbing down the forums to appease group #3 which probably makes up less than 1% of the overall audience.
