over thinking it
Considering you're coming up on 5 months of pondering it's time to make a decision. It's called analysis paralysis and it's hard to snap out of.

AMD runs hot and Intel doesn't as much.

If you have a need for the higher sku's then get one and outfit it with dual fans on the cooler. If you don't then get something milder and forget about it.

65w vs 125w isn't a huge leap unless you're going to engage the CPU with something demanding.

My 7900X is hovering around 40C using a PA120 w/ dual fans.

PCPartPicker Part List: https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/KwLZ8Q

both my case and cooler came with the NZXT ARGB / RGB controllers, and i think I can connect 3 plugs into each. The only other thing I need to add is 2- 140 RGB fams for the bottom of that case, most likely I use the NZXT fans the duo or the core just have to figure out which one will fit and look the best, the 3 fans in the front of the case are not RGB I'm going to leave those for now and put RGB ones in at a later date.

I put the 7600x/ Tomahawk in there as I'm 99% sure thats what i'm going with 463 for the combo just can't beat that price right now. that board has
2x Addressable V2 RGB LED connector and 2x RGB LED connector so hopefully that enough
Why are you still looking at B650's? You can get a X870 for a couple buck more, I assume it's more, I don't follow exchange rates:

$209 US after rebate

so circling back to this, this is the only thing i don't like about 7600x temps and wattage.. Have you ever played around with the PBO settings. It looks pretty simple to do to change the PBO,, throttle limit and back down the wattage and test it in between each. Should I expect to see high temps like 80's 90'5 while gaming, or that be more heavy multi-threaded deck top programs? Everyone seems to say it the best bang for your buck chip right now

What about the 7600 at 65 watts, do they run the same high temps? I would guess not, but they don't preform quite as well as the 7600x either.

For just over a 100 more I can get into 9600x and b650 Tomahawk board, for 200 I can get into a 9700x and a b650 Tomahawk board. the 7600x and B650 Tomahawk is by far the best value, but the other options maybe a better produce but not as good as value.

Or I could hang on until Xmas and hope the 9700x falls a bit in price, either way I most likely over thinking it lol
My daughter has a 7600x with an ID Cooling SE-226-XT cooler. We have PBO enabled and CO set to -20. She's a gamer and her temps are 60-70 while gaming and watching a YouTube video at the same time.

Well, considering you can use them for five years vs Intel every two years it's a good deal. A saver would be 670 instead of 870.
Never re-used a board in my life. New CPU = New board, to take full advantage of a new CPU.
Very few people I know ever just upgrade the CPU.

When it come to AMD though new boards usually means new problems to deal with and die hards I've seen use them for several upgrades. As to current 670/870 the only material change was making USB4 ports mandatory and maybe a modest boost in ram speeds supported out of the box.

The biggest change though is the pricing ~$200 vs $500+. So, if you feel like dropping the extra $300 go for it.

I'm not building right now. But the MSI X870 I linked was $209 TOTAL, What extra $300?

Personally don't like MSI, probably spend $20 more for an Asrock. But even the MSI Tomahawk he wants is only $60 more.

The MSI Mag B650 Tomahawk is $240 CDN here.

Amazon has the Ryzen 5 7600x for $260 CDN.

Not bad at all.
No Its not bad, Newegg has the best deal right now I think, B650 Tomahawk and 7600x for $463 I went to buy one Sunday but at checkout they try to sneak on $30 shipping so I said FU lol , but today I see they lowered their shipping to $11, that makes the tomahawk $239 7600x $235, so that pretty good

So I circled back to Canadian computers deal, B650 Tomahawk, Team group T force Vulcan 32GB and 7700x, for $588 thats the best overall deal I think Tomahawk $239 Ram $109 , 7700x $240, free shipping. that puts the CPU as cheap then the 7600x. So I bought one of those for my son for Xmas as we wants his own computer.

I'm going to hang on until Thursday or Friday to see what the end of week specials are going to be and order then.

Hey guys I have one last question about the GPU's hopefully going to pick one up tomorrow
Here's what I'm down to

XFX speedster MERC 319 Black $685

xfx quicksilver magnetic air $727

Sapphire Nitro+ $747

Powercolor Hellbound $730, Really not fond of the RGB on this card, hate pay for it only to shut it off

Purely on price the Merc 319 wins and it a nice black card, I like the red and black on the Quicksilver and the magnetic fans are cool , The Nitro is a fine card to, and has an led strip which I really like.

But here is the really question Quality wise, performance, undervolting/overclocking, warranty issues, fan sound , etc, does anyone of these card have any standouts or issues in that regards, excluding price and looks.

If there basically all equity that same, then I'll factor in price and looks into my decision.
Thanks and Happy thanksgiving to you all

Remind me, what cards are you looking at here? Are these 7800XT, 7900GRE, 7900XT, or 7900XTX?

As far as overclocking/undervolting, that is generally silicon lottery with these cards, though cards may have higher power limits in firmware, better coolers, or more/better power delivery on PCB depending on model. AFAIK, in the USA, 2 years warranty is pretty standard for recent Radeon cards, though I think Asrock may have 3. Warranty terms should be similar, but may vary by region as well.

At this price tier I'd be going for price to performance. The Nitro+ is a very nice card. Based on Sapphire's track record, It's very likely to be the best 7800XT card on the market. It's also a horrible value at $747 vs the ASUS dual for $635. It's not going to be anywhere near 18% faster to justify spending 18% more money on it. Others here may disagree, but I think the ASUS card is the best combination of quality and price when its on sale like this. I would take it any day of the week over a triple fan XFX card that's $50 more. This is only a 263 watt card. IMO, paying a premium for GPU cooling and/or cosmetics is a waste of money. Especially when you're rocking a 1TB SSD and a 7600X. You'll probably want to undervolt / power limit the card anyway.

A geforce isn't worth $100 over a Radeon. Just my opinion though.

With that price, venturing into the superior 7900 XT territory.

Look at that beauty! https://www.newegg.com/asrock-phant...adeon-rx-7900-xt-20gb-gddr6/p/N82E16814930117

And there's this too: https://www.newegg.com/asrock-creat...adeon-rx-7900-xt-20gb-gddr6/p/N82E16814930128
I agree

I can get a 7900 gre for $750 7900xts are 900 plus

ASRock Challenger OC Radeon RX 7900 GRE 16 GB Video Card $756

Hey guys, Have any of you had an experience with the XFX Merc 310 7900 xt, I found one just bought still in box unopened with receipt. I can get it for about the price of a new sapphire nitro+ 7800 xt Are they a descent card, it will be paired with a B650 tomahawk and 7700x

I don't like buying off market place but we are getting scammed up here on new GPU's.

I don't have any experience with XFX but I think @DAPUNISHER has that card. The AMD exclusive AIB's are generally well regarded. Getting a 7900XT for $750 CAD is a solid deal. I've seen open box 7900XT cards at MC for $500 USD a few times. The price seems about right.

The Sapphire 7800 xt with tax and shipped is 870 total right now, ( 750 plus tax) the XFX merc 319 7800 xt is 1250 plus tax the hellbound is now 1125 plus tax So yeah I think the xfx 7900xt at 900 to my door is not bad

The nearest computer store to me is over an hour way ( canadian computer) a big store. I took a drive on Friday to have a look around, they have a big wall display with all there GPUs on it, it was empty maybe 10 to 15 gpus and all NVIDIA. there is really nothing much left in Canada to buy and what is left is going through the roof in price. the bastards are scamming us lol,

I could weight until Jan. or so until all the new cards come out But I doubt I'll get a better deal,

thanks for the info Rigg

The XFX cards are tanks. The industrial look and beefy coolers appeal to me. I can't speak to the quality of components used on the PCB, but my experiences have all been positive and I haven't had one give me any troubles during ownership.

$900 ($640 USD) seems like a good deal for a new in box card. That's cheaper than any deals on new 7900XT cards I can find from US sellers. Micro Center has that same card for $650 before tax. That's probably the best 7900XT deal I've seen. I wouldn't sleep on it. Somebody's going to snatch that up quickly.

Hey everyone just an update, I got the 7900 xt today. a little sketchy buying off market place but it was still factory sealed and unopened as he said. That card is a beast lol, and will go perfectly in my build with its blackish color and charcoalish back plate with the MERC written on it. it look s fantastic, couldn't be happier. Thanks all for the info on it.
