B3 vs G0 stepping on Q6600

So, with my 6300 running @ 3.4.....I don't really need an X6850, so a Q6600 is probably the way to go.

I hear that the current B3 steppings being sold should let you hit 3.0-3.2, with the G0 around 3.4-3.5......anyone verify this? Am debating whether to get one now or wait. I checked prices at the Egg and I laughed my A$$ off.....$365. I can get a Q6600 here in Canada for $295 CDN LOL 😉

So, cooling isn't an issue.....I have a Swiftech watercooling setup and also a Coolit Freezone on the way. Actually am gonna document the differences between the 2 coolers for both C2D and C2Q in an upcoming article (woot!).

So, any idea when the G0's will be widely available and whether to wait until then? Seems most of the stock out there is B3 right now.

Thanks.

To tag along with the main question, when will we see actual per unit prices come close to that of the unit per 1000 (bulk) prices released by Intel, if ever? If the Q6600 was available, at say, $300, which would be a reasonable ~13% markup by a big retailer like Newegg, I would buy it in a second over sub $200 two-core solutions, but at closing $400 still, I still tend to lean toward the likes of the 1333MHz FSB Core 2s.

I mean is the incredible Newegg markup because they are low on supply, or what?

I understand it's only been two days since the price cuts took effect, but I'd still like to pose the question.

EDIT: Nevermind, its $309 at ZZF and similar at Mwave.

Well, there is a guy over @ xtremesystems.org with a G0 Q6600 and he is getting really bad temperatures with his new RETAIL G0.

Worst than the B3 actually....

Scary!

Ya Backlash that would be great, I'll follow this thread to check your results.

I read a couple posts elsewhere that the B3's are actually doing pretty good, and temps are rather "low" for a Quad. I wonder if the hype for the G0's isn't justified? I'm not convinced that squeezing out 200 mhz more is worth a larger rise in temps, etc......

Binning seems inconsistent at this point. Perhaps it's wiser to wait awhile for the garbage to get sold to OEM's, etc. My 6300 hits 3.45 GHz @ 1.400v on water no problem, and THAT'S saying something for the little chip that could 😉

Apparently the B3's aren't that bad from what I see here:

he is either having a mounting issue or the storm WB he is using cannot handle the quadcore.

my guess is it has more to do with his waterblock.

Thanks.

if you're in canada, NCIX is the best place to order from as most people (after they went out of stock last week) have been getting G0's and has been confirmed in their invoices with the presence of the SLACR part number.

SS proof of voltage and clock speed plz

www.tinypic.com for quick upload

so 70C load with 1.2 volts @ 3.3 ghz?

3.3 @ 1.2 volts is great! however, 70C's with 1.2 volts (i know its load).... not so great.

@swtethan - stop treating toadster like a criminal! i.e. do you have proof... do you have proof... do you have proof... lol...

he's just an overclocker 😀

No kidding. No one has to prove a damn thing to anybody.

I know of a Canadian retailer that still has B3 Q6600's in stock for $295 CDN 😉 Which is why I'm debating whether to get one NOW or wait for the G0's??? Will the G0's live up to the hype?

Does anyone here have a G0? We REALLY need to have a comparison to set the record straight. I'd check at XS but I don't have time to go through like..... a thousand posts to find it all, between all the lousy filler comments.
