I'll watch it, since Cameron generally does very good films.

Its a shame that you can still tell the difference between the CGI and live action stuff.

Looks like they cheaped out big time on the special effects budget. Looks like high-end CGI you'd expect from a contemporary video game intro, not a premier blockbuster-tier movie. The people look very CGI and some of the big action parts with the osprey-type ships and explosions looked like something from a decade old (think Star Wars IV).
the CG is rather horrendous and sticks out like a sore thumb.
Yep, it looked almost like a video game or a cartoon like that final fantasy one from a few years ago.

Too much cheesy, fake-looking CGI, ugh. I wish they would stop doing it in all these new movies, it looks terrible.

You can d/l and save apple QT trailers if you got QT alternative installed. But I don't feel like adding more crap to my system, so I'll just wait for the inferior youtube up.

it does look pretty good, but i think the big eyes anime it a bit much and reduce realism

plus i get the bad vibes of a pc native liberation story.

Here a critic horns up over Cameron's new 3D cartoon and says it may revolutionize films. Hmm, maybe. Probably not.

I'll go see it just because a major effort is being made to produce a 3d movie thats more than just a gimmicky tech demonstration. For over 200 mil, it's got to be good, right? Except waterworld, of course.

i`m disappointed,this might sink cameron`s prestige.
style over substance,3d camera, more super duper 'photorealistic' blue cats with mad cow disease herding rhinos combined with Pocahontas ...well ,as long as the public swallows crap like transformers...

EDIT:stolen from imdb forum

"I've returned form my Avatar Day preview in Croatia.

It was outstanding. I am still in shock how good it was. I had a feeling I was there and the visuals are simply stunning, especially blue Pandora environment which is almost hypnotic. I am the one of those who didn't like the internet trailer so much because it looked to me like videogame at first (I didn't want to post my opinion here until I see the preview), but after this preview I've seen how wrong I was. I simply cannot wait to see the movie now. The trailer unfortunately cannot give us the true experience and that is the sad fact. It just gave the movie bad marketing effect.

I didn't feel the dialogue was cheesy as some say. Acting was very good in my opinion and the emotions on the character faces were so realistic that I felt like they were living beings. I've even noticed Sigourney's, Saldana's and Worthington's personality in them and in my opinion techically it is the greatest acheivement of this preview (including stunning 3D presentation). Their facial emotions were photorealistic.

My only concern was and still is the story, because it's not so original, but I think James Cameron will have some surprises storywise :).

For those who think this movie will be awful CGI, just see the movie in cinema in 3d and in my opinion you won't be dissapointed. If you'll judge movie by the trailer and by the people that hate the movie just because they don't like the trailer, you'll be missing alot.

As for the story, I cannot judge from the preview, but I hope it will live up to my expectations."

I was excited for this until I saw the trailer. CGI looks plastic, and plot (Ferngully meets Halo) right on.

A solid story might save this, but I'm not as impressed as I wanted to be.

I think the trailer doesn't express how good the movie actually will be - kinda like watching Star Wars on a 7" tv compared to watching it in a high-tech modern movie theater [or comparing a DVD to a BluRay movie playing a high end system]

As for the movie - Cameron has an track record of making some excellent movies. He tends to use everything to tell a good story [rather than overuse 1 or 2 things like most other blockbuster films]

I just got back from the 16 minute preview at the IMAX 3D. I wasn't all that impressed with the trailer yesterday, but after watching a few hunks of the movie on the BIG screen? WOW! Its the first time I've seen a 3-D movie in which the 3-D felt like it belonged as part of the movie rather than thrown in as a gimmick. Its done REALLY well.

They showed maybe 5 or 6 segments from the 1st half of the movie, including a lengthy chase seen in which a dinosaurish creature is chasing the main guy (shown briefly in the trailer), and holy crap is it impressive. The way trees go shattering in all directions (including right at you) as the creature goes charging through the forest is intense. There was also another scene in which the main guy is trying to tame what I guess would be a small dragon and then ride it, and when he finally gets it under control and takes the plunge off the cliff while riding it is spactacular looking.

I still don't really know what the hell the movie is all about, but based on what I saw, it's really really impressive looking when you see it the way its meant to be seen in Imax 3D.

OK maybe it somehow does look better when not on the trailer. I will reserve a last bit of judgement ;0

While I think Cameron's an amazing director, this one doesn't do much for me. I've watched one of the trailers in hope that it might deliver...but I wasn't impressed with what I saw.
IMO, TOO MUCH CGI, characters that look "cartoonish," probably made for the 8-14 viewing audience.

The people who saw it in 3-d all seem to think it looks awesome.

Many of the people who saw the trailer think it looks like shit.

I am going with the people who saw it in the theater. Plus Cameron has a nearly perfect track record since Terminator. Hard to bet against him.
