Of all the times to released 2 movies that are similar in names: I got confused at first since Avatar: Last Airbender was named solely "The Last Airbender" and then this movie is called just "Avatar".

Stupid.

The airbender guys must've been like, "what? seriously? James Cameron? motherfucker!"

And yeah, I'm looking forward to Avatar. Probably more JC's than the airbender's given who is helming that flick...

Cameron fought and won the rights to naming his film 'Avatar' which caused M. Night to rename his film to just 'The Last Airbender'.

Yep.

Halo meets Dances with Wolves meets Ferngully in 3D is probably the most apt description I can think of.

i have trouble separating fiction and reality. ;)

also we did get that scene where vinnie is walking down the pier taking off his tuxedo in preparation to jump into the water. and the "underwater" scene with him and mandy except it was in front of a green screen.

Guys it's not all CGI:

IMDB: "The movie is 40% live action and 60% photo-realistic CGI."

We still aren't at the point yet where human figures can pass the CGI turring test. But we are getting closer. The live scenes in the trailer are still fairly obvious.

Just watched the trailer. It certainly looks interesting.

James Cameron has done some great stuff. But when looking at any director's past work, I like to start at the most recent and go back. Titanic also looked very good. In certain parts of the film he did manage to convey the humanity involved and what was happening to them. However, the bulk of the story was poorly acted cliche crap (Oscar or not).

While watching this trailer, I got the feeling we would have a Titanic experience cranked up to 11. Technically, an amazing movie, but a story that is crap. We shall see.

Is this supposed to be based on a book or TV series or something?

Is the whole thing CG? I could tell when they were outside, but once they got indoors in the "lab" the humans looked pretty realistic.

Yeah, I thought it switched to live action at some point, but if that's the case, then the CG is rather horrendous and sticks out like a sore thumb.
