Governments don't need to ban incandescent bulbs, they need to tax the hell out of them. If there more expensive that CFL's then people will buy CFL's...
Whats more important is driving the prices of CFLs down. Right now I can get a 75w light bulb for $1.00 or less. CFLs are like $5.
Ding Ding Ding!
I'm hoping that Wal-Mart pushing CFLs will greatly bring the price down. Unfortunately, I think I'll have replaced all the bulbs in my house by the time that happens.
but they aren't 5 dollars. more like 2-3 bucks. only 5 if you buy a single pack. at ikea its always been cheap since they've been pushing them for years now. i think a 3 pack of GE 100 watt equivs is about 9? bucks at wally world/target?
ban is bit much, they shoulda just taxed incandescents to match cf pricing, so if you really need it, u can pay out of your nose for it.
places like lowes still push incandescent its sad, look at their displays. compared to ikea who pushed them even 5+ years ago..at low prices too. i remember even back then getting bulbs for 2.5-3 bucks, even the smaller ones with the tiny screw in bases. lowes and home depot are only now starting to stock those smaller bulbs..course charging more too
anyways it doesn't matter if its a huge proportion of our power usage or not, its low hanging fruit. its hard to justify using devices that use 3-4 times as much energy just to save a buck or two initial investment, we aren't talking solar panels or something really expensive after all. i mean where else can you get that kind of improvement in efficiency so cheap? no where. so theres really no point waiting for your old bulbs to burn out before replacing them, just put them in storage where they won't waste anymore power

i guess if someones after you u can always use them mission impossible style to line the floor so you can hear someone coming heh.
