This is what I was thinking.....

Receiver either: Pioneer Elite, Yamaha, or Denon (1-2K)
Fronts: Paradigm or Klipsch
Sub: Velodyne
Center and Satellites: no idea

My current setup:

Yamaha R-V902
Speakers: Bose 301's
Center: Bose VCS10

Please dont make fun of it, I got the setup when I was a poor college student:). I got an employee discount since Prof. Bose used to teach at my college...

Looking to build up my home theatre since I got an WEGA 36XBR450

Can't go wrong with some paradigms in the mix.

For your budget, you're probably best off visiting some of the dedicated audiophile message boards and groups. they'll have a better idea of the gear in your price range.

Otherwise, some here might start suggesting you get bose speakers.

do consider matching your center/surrounds to your fronts though. will make things nicer when effects move across them.

The best in this price range is the Harman Kardon Av 7000 or 8000 receiver. It has very clean amp section plus the Logic 7 circuitry is included which is awesome, taken from Lexicon series pre/pro. Hard to beat this reciever.

Speakers:

Klispch are great for open dynamic concert level sound for rock, rap and movies. For more refined taste such as classic music maybe NHT , Monitor Audio, Dynaudio

This might be irrevelant to the post topic but ....

I have been living on $5/day for the last 3 weeks.
I have not eaten a decent meal for that long. I survive on Ramen noodles/soup and old donuts from DD (I pick them up at late night).

I lost my job(worked for DB on 4th floor WTC), got kicked out of apartment and now feel like s h i t.

And wow here comes this RICH MIT (Bose taught him) f u k k e r who is spending $5000 on a HT system.

Man I feel like cutting you open and eating your white tender meat (i have not had meat for a week).

Bin LAden took only my job I wish he taken my life too............

cybergrave you're as worthless as they come. You can sit around on your ass all day blaming other people for your misfortunates, but it's NO ones fault for him wanting to buy something. How is it you have time to come post here and have an internet connection/computer?? You do know you could sell that computer and make some money?? How were you thrown out of your apartment? Couldnt pay rent? But you can post? How is it you cant go get another job? Damn if things are so bad, and you were working at a nice job in the WTC, why is it you cant get another job? It'd be pretty easy getting a job at any fast food place, convenience market, walmart, or places like these. But you'd rather sit around making 5$ a day complaining about other peoples spending habits?

Get off your sorry ass and do something about it. No one feels sorry for you.

Quit the pity party and get a life and some medication while your at it.

Actually cybergrave needs people spending $5000 on HT systems to heat up the sagging economy so he can get another job!

Waaahhhhh.

Edit: Muadib, very nice choices - although I personally wouldn't spend as much on such a high-end Yamaha reciever. He would be better off getting a cheaper reciever (~1,000) and putting the leftover money into a down payment for a bigger TV. :D

The man did ask for some advice.. I would check out the McIntosh line of AV reciever and the KEF line of AV speakers, it should be close to 5k.

cybergrave,

Can your parents speak english? Because mine barely can. They came to the US in the 1960's from Greece with no money, no education, and no language. They did have 2 things though: Pride and Ambition

My dad is a janitor and my mom is a hairdresser. They realized that without an education, their children would suffer the same fate as they did. So, they sacrified everything to educate their children. I graduated from MIT and my sister is will be applying to the Top 10 law schools in the country next summer.

So you see, I am no rich kid. I did however, bust my ass for 22 years of my life. Now I am in a job, where I bust my @ss every day (80+ hours a week), that I can afford these luxuries. If that makes you jealous or angry, too bad - you happen to live in a capitalist society.

Now, as far as your current predicament goes, if you lost your job and had been working for 6 months, you can collect unemployment.

Your going to have to listen to find the stuff that really suits you. Along with the Nak AV10 try out some Magnepan speakers.
