DIY :D

Vance Dickason designed home theatre kit with Audax and Morel drivers, DIPOLE surrounds!

<< Parts Express makes it easy for you to build a great sounding dream home theater system designed by the famous audiophile engineer Vance Dickason. All aspects of the design are thoroughly discussed in The Loudspeaker Design Cookbook (6th. Edition). The systems left, center and right speakers utilize the exact same drivers to maintain identical timbre content for the front of the home theater system. It also features unique dipole satellite speakers that add realism to Dolby Digital movie soundtracks. This system rivals others costing thousands more. >>

<< Includes all cabinets, drivers, crossover components and detailed instructions! >>

<< The attractive pre-finished cabinets are made of MDF (medium density fiberboard) and laminated with real red oak veneer. They are natural finished in a beautiful satin polyurethane. All driver holes are precision CNC routed for a perfect driver fit and recessed for flush mounting. >>

<< Note: This system is offered in kit form and can be assembled in about 2 hours. The crossover needs to be assembled so soldering skills are necessary. Net system weight: 75 lbs. Cabinet weight only: 50 lbs. >>

UNBEATABLE for the money kit. And pretty easy to assemble, and you can always brag to your friends that you did it yourself :D

For a sweet sub, the 15inch Dayton DVC active sub kit rules. I built out my own sub using the same 15inch Dayton DVC driver and 250watt plate amplifier, and it shakes the whole house. 115db @ 20hz IN ROOM, @ listening position. Check out the pic in my sig :D

Receiver.....the Outlaw Audio 1050 receiver is probably the best receiver for the money.

That's what I tought when I built my towers (in my sig as well :D), but I didn't.
Besides, this kit has all the parts and boards included, so you just mount the part to the board, and solder together.
The cabients are all preassembled, so it's quick and easy.......about as easy as building your own speakers gets.
And believe me, nothing can touch them for the money.
Not even KEF, Klipsch, NHT use drivers and parts this good.

Knightbreed,

what TV did you have in mind? Given my living situation I don't think a larger TV would even be practical :(
As it is right now, I sit 7 feet from my WEGA :)

I think he just meant a bigger tv in general, but I'll bite. What size TV do you have now?

<< Also, the outlaw receiver does not component video which is a must >>

You actually run cables to the receiver then to the TV?
There's always a quality loss when doing that...I run everything to it's source.....like svideo from DVD player straight to the TV, might as well keep the quality as high as possible :)
Plus you can spend more money on a single set of cables to get even better quality :D

Probably, Dunn and Bradstreet. Cybergrave, don't be so rough on yourself, or others. People will always try to flaunt the size of their manhood - just let them pass on by. Hopefully, things pick up for ya soon.

This would only seem like a logical idea if you have multiple devices - and not enough inputs on the TV.

receiver: Pioneer Elite VSX-47TX 1900$

center: Paradigm Reference Studio CC 400$

Mains: Paradigm Reference Studio 60 800$

Surround and Rears: 2 pairs of Paradigm Reference Studio 20 2x 500$=1000$

subwoofer: from SVS subs, Two 20-39CS With Samson S700 amp 1199$

Grand total: 5299$

(Keep in mind the prices I posted for the Paradigm speakers are very close to list prices, so I'm sure you'll be able to knock off a little if you buy them all at the same store. They're also cheaper in Canada, if you feel like making a little trip...)

And bada-bing, 6.1 (actually 7.2 :D) channels of THX Ultra2 DTS-ES or DD-EX goodness. I just hope your neighbors don't live too close... :)

I say you go to your local Cambridge Sound Works and listen to what they have. I too was in the market for a HT system including TV 2 years ago I was planning to spend around 10k. I went to listen to all the big name speakers and thought that the top of the line Cambridge system was by far the best bang for the buck that I hade listened to.
I got there top of the line Center, fronts, bi poler rears and two subs all for around $3500 and they come with a 10 year warranty. Also they Kick some A$$ when your watching a Killer DVD
I rock out big time to heavy music and there still going strong.. Also they Kick some A$$ when your watching a Killer DVD

reciever - look at marantz, denon, and outlaw. pretty good value for the money and all three will sound phenomenal. marantz is my personal favorite but denons are awesome too.

speakers - tannoy, b&w, or Von Schweikert (vonschweikert.com - the best speakers, but expensive as the vrt-2100s msrp for $1900)

sub - check out HSU at hsureasearch.com, awesome subwoofers.

id go with the same speakers all around. most importantly make sure you buy a center channel that is matched to your fronts. that means buying a center that is the same brand and series as your fronts.

oh and drop by dvdtalk.com and go to the home theater hardware forum, those guys would love to give you help and they know way more than i. have fun. im jealous.

If you're not going to do DIY, then you might as well get it from the people that supply awesome DIY stuff....adireaudio :)
Adire Kanada monitors nice 8inch woofers that can handle a ton of power and beating, and give off a LOT of bass (something like 11mm linear excursion :D)...

For a sub, the Adire Dharman would rock your room. Incredible price for a TON of bass.

My HT is worth only about $1000 but then again I am only still in high school. I love my Denon reciever and PSB Image speakers even though my budget is much lower.

PSB makes some really sweet-ass high end stuff, don't rule them out.

Regarding Denon receivers, if you want to have a manufacturer's warranty, you need to get them from an authorized reseller which means you will be paying very close to MSRP. Just a heads up on that.

I haven't been in the audio/videophile market in a while because I made a largish investment about 5 years ago and haven't felt the need to upgrade (which is something that is nice about audio: stuff lasts longer). But I do remember liking NHT's home theater solutions. This sounds like a good deal:

NHT VT 2.4 fronts ($1000 ea x 2)
NHT VS 2.4 center/satellites ($350 ea x 3)
$1500 class receiver (Yahama/Onkyo, etc.) or maybe some separates by Rotel/NAD

I would get high-quality fronts, such as the VT2.4, and live without a subwoofer, for now at least. The VT2.4 each comes with a side-firing 10-inch woofer, which really should be sufficient, but if you want to add one later, you can. I don't find a subwoofer essential to audio/home-theater enjoyment.

Here are some prices from Cambridge Soundworks
Tower I floor standing speakers $999.99 reg $1499.99 Tower is a 3-way bipolar speaker with two forward-facing 8" polypropylene woofers, a forward-facing 5 ¼" polypropylene mid-range driver, and a 1" soft-dome fabric tweeter. Separate sets of gold-plated connecting posts, rearward-facing mid-range and tweeter units identical to those used in front.

The Surround 5.1 $199.99 reg 399.99 The Surround 5.1 Surround Speakers use state-of-the-art MultiPole technology, making them the ideal speakers for use with any surround sound system, especially Dolby Digital systems which send distinctly different signals to the right and left surround speakers. The MultiPole switch on The Surround 5.1 alters the directionality of the speaker, sending mid- and high-frequency output along the side walls (dipole) or concentrating this output toward the listening area (bipole). Mounting brackets optional.

Newton Series P1000 Sub $999.99 capable of rock-solid, ultra-high-output bass response down to 22Hz. Yet the P1000's richly finished cabinet is only 15.5" x 15.25" x 14". The cabinet encloses an awesome 1,000-watt B.A.S.H.® (Bridged Amplifier Switching Hybrid) digital amplifier and dual 10-inch subwoofer drivers. The Cambridge SoundWorks Subwoofer Control Module keeps the controls and connections conveniently near your equipment. You can even adjust bass output using an infrared remote control

Center Stage center speaker $199.99 reg $299.99 The dynamic range of the long-throw drivers is enough to handle the most demanding soundtracks, while dispersion is broad enough to cover all listening positions. A true value, the CenterStage can easily fill the largest of listening rooms.

This comes to $2399.96 before tax That leaves you with almost $2500.00 $2000.00 for a amp and $500 for speaker cable and interconnects

<< Don't forget about the Nakimichi AV-10 when looking for receivers. $5000 now thats my kinda HT. >>

I have an old Nakamichi TA-2A receiver in my bedroom. Sounds like a million bucks, even though it's not any where near the top of the power heap. I think the AV-10 deserves a listen. I have a Kenwood reciever(would love to upgrade it) but I really love my Definitive Technologu speakers. Worth a listen as well.

Viperoni, how do these speaker(also kits) you're recommending compare to the popular british speakers like B&W or Epos?
