Managed to gain the energy to go do the driveway. I don't know what I'd do without my snow blower. I can't believe I used to do this the hard way. Even with the snow blower, there's still lot of manual work like trying to maneuver around the vehicle and take snow off it etc. That's actually the part that takes the longest.

Every time I open the fridge, alcohol greets me. As tempting as it is, I probably shouldn't drink any while sick. I wouldn't even really get to enjoy it anyway since my sense of taste is a little off due to the meds.

Slowly getting better though. Mild coughing now, and just feeling a bit off and lack energy. As soon as the office opens I will call my doctor to schedule an Xray to make sure the pneumonia is really gone. I don't want that shit coming back for Christmas and then I'm sick throughout all of it.

A band I like sent an email containing a pile of one-time free download codes for their new album on bandcamp. All their albums are "name your price" anyway. :p

My 2 Proxmox nodes just shipped. :D Hopefully it doesn't get tied up anywhere.

I also really need to look at virtualizing my home automation server, it has this weird issue where it will randomly lose network. While poking around after rebooting it I found that the OS drive has 13 years of straight runtime. It's probably a ticking time bomb. I suppose I can do USB pass through for the hardware and should be able to get it working easily enough. I want to redo all of that sooner rather than later, so that the automation hardware just speaks ethernet.

Started experimenting with the process of converting VMs from VMware and it's fairly easy. It's really time to retire my ESXi 5.5 host so I will convert all my VMs, then convert the host into a PVE node too once that's done. It's been rock solid though, sitting at over 6 years of uptime right now.

I am eager to do this but at same time I might want to let the PVE setup simmer for a bit to make sure there's no weird gotchas that end up burning me. I can migrate the less critical VMs though.

Been migrating VMs one by one to Proxmox, going pretty well.

Got 2 done today and about to start another. There's probably a way to do it live but just shutting them done one by one and then converting from vmdk to qcow2 and then adding to new VM and powering up and testing. I'm getting less issues than I would have thought. Only one VM so far where I had to fix network settings as the ethernet adapter name changed.

What's funny is the Proxmox server is running as a VM on the ESXi server I'm migrating stuff from .:p

That will change once my hardware comes in though, I'll add those nodes to the cluster then just live migrate the VMs over to the physical hosts.

I hate systemd. Always making everything more convoluted than it has to be. Can't migrate VMs that have it, the network interfaces change names and it screws up everything.

Getting like 50MB/sec for a local file transfer, no idea why it's being so slow. Been copying all day, and I have another one to do after that's even bigger.

Gave up on the systemd vms. I think I will just virtualize the ESXi server to keep those running as is. Systemd does some really weird stuff with networking and everything breaks when it sees a different network card and can't seem to get anything to work after.

I will eventually just phase those VMs out by rebuilding them on newer OSes as they go out of date.

So many breakins down town this week, we're at like 3-4 now? I lost track. Also a weapon's related incident that the cops are not being clear about as that area is under lockdown. There's also a bullet hole in another store window that I think is unrelated the the current ongoing investigation. Fun stuff.
