Did seem kinda expensive, but don't see anything cheaper that's 100w equivalent and dimmable. Not sure why they keep pushing the 60w equivalent ones everywhere.

I might still try to open the bad ones to see if I can fix them though but they are tricky to open without breaking them. Probably a cold solder joint somewhere.

new link :p

it is literally cheaper for you to have 3 lamps at different wattage.

Oh well too late now. I never really considered checking Amazon as I assumed they were crazy backlogged right now. But it looks like they caught up since ETA is like May 11 which is a normal time frame.

As a side note finally got around to playing with a push-pull controller chip I bought a while back. Was tricky to get it going, datasheet did not really have that great of an example circuit. Was going to use just one side to do a make shift flyback but I'm not getting enough chooch, I think I will wind a new centre tapped transformer and do a proper push pull config like this chip is made for. Technically I'm only getting 50% duty cycle the way I'm trying now.

Might need to use a bigger core too. Bought this bad boy a while back though I had another project in mind for it.

Ridiculously overkill though. I think if I use the smaller cores I got on hand and just do a better ratio and use push pull I should get decent power out of it. The current one I'm using is optimized for 5v in with only 1 primary turn and I'm using 12v but I think it's saturating and most of the current just dies in the winding as a short basically. Fet was getting hot even with no load on other side.

A while back when messing with it I had a nice arcing going on with the one I'm trying but in the wrong place... lol. rewound it since then and because of the isolation layers I don't have as many turns.

So yeah might move to that beefy one. Try not to electrocute myself with that thing.

Ok I'm done for tonight. But yeah this is still not quite enough to create an ozone generator. But wow I can smell the ozone almost instantly when I do draw an arc though. Might play around with a voltage multiplier circuit before the transformer.

Actually now that I moved to push-pull config I can try the transformer I ripped out of an LCD. Will probably be better than my DIY one. Still cool to see my own creation actually working though.

Back to the normal cold here. We had one nice day but I was busy inside with lot of crap that had to be done so missed out on it.

At least most of the snow is gone, so provided we don't get any major storms I should be able to work on my deck when I'll be off at end of May.
