As a side note finally got around to playing with a push-pull controller chip I bought a while back. Was tricky to get it going, datasheet did not really have that great of an example circuit. Was going to use just one side to do a make shift flyback but I'm not getting enough chooch, I think I will wind a new centre tapped transformer and do a proper push pull config like this chip is made for. Technically I'm only getting 50% duty cycle the way I'm trying now.
Might need to use a bigger core too. Bought this bad boy a while back though I had another project in mind for it.
Ridiculously overkill though. I think if I use the smaller cores I got on hand and just do a better ratio and use push pull I should get decent power out of it. The current one I'm using is optimized for 5v in with only 1 primary turn and I'm using 12v but I think it's saturating and most of the current just dies in the winding as a short basically. Fet was getting hot even with no load on other side.
A while back when messing with it I had a nice arcing going on with the one I'm trying but in the wrong place... lol. rewound it since then and because of the isolation layers I don't have as many turns.
So yeah might move to that beefy one. Try not to electrocute myself with that thing.
