Unfortunately in audio the consumer format is the CD with 16bits and 44,100 Hz sampling rate. Its resolution is simply far too low to compare with analog. When you factor in the junk mastering/production of today it gets harder and harder to understand this too.
For a CD, I agree with Motf. I'll take the lower noise floor, and the expanded dynamic range over analog.
Is it live or is it Memorex? The CD format is square in the middle.
junk/mastering & production is exactly right. Let's not go to even more undersampled mp3's and the like
