Cap on lumens is fine but one has to remember that wattage is simple to measure where lumens is definitely not. Watt to do then? Simple. Leave it to the manufacturers to certify them. ANY mods or refits would be 100% illegal, period. :D

No, capping lumens isn't a plan. If you have a perfect flat cutoff, so that all light is pointed downwards from the car, you could have enormous lumens, and it won't bother other drivers. Measuring wattage is too simplistic, and besides 35W is the norm for factory projector HID's, but that's also what the 8000K morons use.

Manufacturer's can't be trusted, it needs to be DOT approved. Banning all refits would still require massive enforcement, and that's not fair to people like me who are spending a couple hundred bucks and most of a day to do a proper rebuild; and there are others who spend even more. I'll be meeting DOT requirements, my color temperature is the same, the coupe edition of my car is even available with projectors, I'm adding them to mine because sedans didn't have the option.

Lol CCFL Angel Eyes

2011-BMW-335i-Coupe-Front-Angel-View.jpg

You can barely see them, but BMW uses them as DRL's.

Aftermarket angel eyes are much brighter, making them very obvious. They look ricey in large part because of how bright they are.

With a BMW, those are nearly invisible in day time, but as the day dims, they start to become noticeable, and provide a nice accent to their projectors.

Aftermarket versions are bright and obvious in day time, and at night, they're even more noticeable.

The problem with allowing people to mod is they choose the simplest path - pulling out a filament bulb and shoving in an HID lamp/ballast kit. This is where the problem lies as you know.

Proper cutoff is important particularly with brighter systems. Auto tracking/shaping is best because it allows you to see furthest without bothering others or reaching for a switch/lever to turn off brights, etc.

You're probably too young to remember when high beam switches were on the floor, activated with your left foot. Cars also had small amber lamps on the hood for turn signal markers! :D

Way too young to remember those last bits.

You're right, of course, people take the easy and cheap method. So the regulations have to play catch up to deal with them, but it has to be done.

I do not know why In Flames has a bunch of hot women doing a car wash in this music video, but these are questions I don't really care about the answer to.

It's all visual tastes, and we know your tastes and mine do not agree much.

That being said, I suggest something as simple, subtle, and low-key as possible.

Atropine pills on a hot dish heated with 70cm 25kW MRF banks. Breathe the resultant fumes as it promises an easier path to death than the alternative finder's penalty to the caisson. ;)

I only recall the turn signal lamps on Mopar.

When I was waaay little, my grandfather still had a '62 Dodge (on its last days).
It had a pushbutton transmission.

I need to find a guide on how to wire these things... I also need to sleep

8thC and HIDP will give you all the help you need. Try reading around HIDP, check their stickies, there's enough information to amuse you for a couple weeks. If you still have questions, then start asking them.

It might end up that the G37-R look similar but not identical, and thus end up clashing, but I'm placing my bet on them working nicely.
