I was just thinking, I wonder if there will be a time where retail stores just stop existing completely and go online-only and we actually look back at them the same way we look back at video rental stores. I kinda miss them, but at same time I don't think I'd actually use them much either if they existed. Times just change.

Our Staples just closed down, which was kind of a shock but at same time not that surprising. Any time I went it always brought back memories of when I used to go with my mom to get school supplies. I remember when it first opened and it had a "new building smell". That smell always stayed and was there even the last time I went. It was almost like a signature smell for that store. It's oddly kinda sad knowing the store is closed now, but at same time it's not like I actually did go all that often and I can just order online anyway. Anytime I did go there was maybe like 10 people there at most. Taxes on that building are probably like 80k per year. Margins are very low in retail so it's a miracle they even make enough to pay all the bills for a big building like that.

Unless an item is on sale @ staples their HIGH "full-retail" regular pricing and unreliable online inventory means I'll very rarely buy anything there.

I want to upgrade my video card. Been looking at the 3080 Ti. But the 4080 release is just around the corner. Looks like it may be delayed until December. I think I'll wait. It would make a good Christmas present. Who here wants to put on the Santa suit?

If you genuinely NEED to upgrade right now I'd say grab an AMD 6600XT which can be had for a bit over $300 and should perform sufficiently well to get you by.

OTOH if you're okay for the moment with the GPU you own I would wait a few months to see what happens.... there may be some incredible deals on high-end 30 series cards.

I don't need to do anything. If the 4800 is faster, uses less power and cost less, I will consider it.
