I already said that. I still ordered the 6Gb/s drive, not the 3Gb/s drive. it's not like this is mission critical. I'm in no hurry. Do it right the first time.

So I cut all my hedges. Still need to cleanup and haul the branches away. Lot of them were in rough shape and I just wanted to clear them so I can later put a fence and it will just give a bit more room in the yard. With all the trees I've been cutting I kinda feel bad though, need to at least plant one to make up for it. Maybe I can put one where the birch was, it was not really in that bad of a spot.

Actually wanted to start finishing my garage this week but kinda got side tracked with this instead. Ideally I do want to try to take a day for the garage though, at least get the framing started on the wall on the firewall side then start laying out the rafters. There's lot of oddball stuff that will need to be done in there after like some electrical and data stuff that I need to do now or never as I will lose easy access to be able to run wire once I insulate. EV charger junction box on the outside of house for if ever I buy an EV, and some cat6 for future security cameras are one thing I need to do.

Well, drive #2 is a lot quieter. But from what I've read, it's normal for this drive to be really noisy. Maybe the difference is the data I'm copying to it. I hate noise.

Totally don't feel like it but need to do a bunch of dump runs today to get rid of all the tree branches. It's not too hot out, but very windy with small chance of rain, so best to do it while it's not too hot.

You seen my build. It's dead quiet. Plus, quiet case. I'm not sure how it will sound in my case. I'm waiting on the replacement drive. If it's acoustics are similar to Disc #2 then I may send back the noisy drive. I don't care if it's enterrprise. Disc #2 is a lot quieter, even though I can hear it still.

This drive is louder than any of the other enterprise drives I have. It can be audible, but not that loud. We'll see.

Well, I installed two of the drives, changed the drive letters and tested out the acoustics on the drive in question. With the side panels off, it was hardly audible when reading. Those writes are noisy! Check it out yourself!

It does seem to have an odd muffled sound to it but not sure if that's just because of the dock. All my drives are in my server room and any sound is muffled by the fans so can't really hear them to compare.

Then there's my work PC. Try to open Outlook and the hard drive sounds like a teletype machine.

Got the last drive in today. It's 6 Gb/s. It's barely making a sound when writing. About 1.29TB to write over USB3. 6 hours remaining.

If you are just going to run then in the usb dock then they will be noisy. Not being fastened to the case would make it vibrate. May reduce life as well.

The dock is only for temporary use. After I copy the data, I put a drive letter label on the HDD and install into my main rig. I'm sure I have detailed that the first HDD was noticeably louder than the other HDDs. But Drive #1 was not that loud when it was reading, just when writing.

You might be able to make it more quiet by using grommets of sorts when mounting it. Digikey has all sorts of sizes, made for wires going through cases, but they work nice for screws too.
