Well this was a non productive day. I was planing to do the solar mounts today but realized that once the shingles fuse, you can't really put flashing under them. I tried to tear them appart but it felt like I was going to damage them so I gave up before I start doing damage. That, and my stud finding was completely useless through shingles. It kept detecting them as electrical for some reason and it was just beeping non stop and also not finding the joists. So I would have had to do blind holes and then add bracing.

So decided I'm just going to mount the solar panels on the wall. In a way this will be better as the snow won't accumulate on them so they'll still produce in winter. Downside is they are not going to be as high there so they won't get much sun due to neighbour's house, trees, fence etc as the sun goes down. especially in winter, which is well most of the year here.

I oversized the array anyway, so if I can get even like 10% of the rated output it's still something.

Now to find some lag hangers that are similar to the PV quickmount ones, so I can go through the wall. I don't want to use the quickmount ones as I want to try to sell those off. Might just lag bolt the unistrut straight to the siding, but probably better to use hanger bolts and leave a small space. Could not find anything locally so I'll have to check online.

With all that though, since I had the ladder out I did some minor roof repairs on my house and shed. Just covering exposed nails etc. The ones who did my house roof originally put nails through the bottom part of flashing for all the penetrations so touched those up. The vent for my hot water tank is also starting to rust, I will want to do something about that too.

MY internet went out 4 hours ago. Wasn't long before I started wondering if it was 9-11 related. :frowning:
My router just needed power-cycling. :relieved: Easy fix.
