You mean they thought you should be a tutor? Isn't it usually a prof who does these types of recommendations?

Musta been. Another one sent me an email asking about doing it.
Dont think they woulda taken a student recommendation.

Fuck, I'm getting my ass kicked by probability under a curve.

Does anybody know if you got a mean of 92, std dev 12, and take 24 samples (assuming its normal) what the probability is you'll get within the margin of error .02?
CUZ I SURE AS SHIT DONT!

Note I'm not talking about you personally below. And this wasn't my own experience either as I didn't have problems with the material (had emotional problems) more a generalization of the worst case.

The gap between HS and University is retarded and entirely unnecessary. If NA wants to know why we are looking dumber and dumber here's where to look. HS standards have gone down and down and down year after year. University standards have remained relatively stable. WTF do you expect kids to do when they get out of HS with barely understanding trig and algebra and having NO study habits and never having learned "how to learn". Then they get to university and realize the first month is equal to the whole last year they took in HS. And the teacher is no longer there to teach you, you have to do that yourself now (which is the right way).

And like I said there's NO excuse for this! Go back a generation and the gap was MUCH smaller. Go back a few more and some of the stuff expected of HS students in math even today's university profs would pause at for a second or two (which isn't to say THEY are less skilled just not used to seeing that type of stuff). Of course it's not just maths and sciences. HS English has gone from reading and simple analysis of real classical literature to being able to read Harry Potter IF you are lucky. Then get to university and English 101 includes 3 plays of Shakespeare, Pride and Prejudice and Great Expectations.

The difficulty was always supposed to be:

And yes I know I'm exaggerating.

I came from a private Catholic high school, so the educational standards there are considerably higher than the public schools. However, I'm, if you'll pardon my lack of modesty, quite intelligent, so I never actually built a work ethic, study habits, or really, had to put forth any effort, and cruised right through my first twelve years of school.

Now I'm sitting struggling in university, with a long drive to a school I utterly despise every day, and no ingrained habits to deal with the content.

So far it seems like calculus III really is just going over calculus I and II again, except with vectors and multiple dimensions and partials.

I took AP Stats in high school. The teacher resigned next year, and the rumors I heard after indicated it was a resign or be fired sort of thing, and related to his inadequacies as a teacher.

Yeah, a direct counterpoint to my statement of a Catholic private school being generally better than a public school.

That class was mostly the drunken partiers, and a handful of the really smart kids. The rejects had no business being in an AP course, so we didn't cover nearly as much material as we should have, and the whole grading was run on such a steep curve that the smart ones were cruising through without doing work and still getting A's by means of owning the tests.

I'm the same when it came to university. Aced HS (90+ average in most subjects) and never learned proper study habits :( Add this to my history of depression and you get 5-6 dropouts from university turning a 4.0 GPA into... I don't want to think about it. I'm going back to do things a different route this time.

Remember MotF, you just need to know this stuff for tests. You literally won't use this again. You might need to know the principles but no one will ever make you sit down and hand calculate this stuff in the real world.

Anyway, I aced HS and aced college other than the bumpy first year. Once I learned how to study for engineering tests, it seemed to work in all my classes.

I never got to a 4.0 in university, nor did I drop out, but I can relate in many ways.

How old are you again? 28 or 29 was it?

And to do the homework for it. They love grading homework.

Yeah, curves are nice (she has them anyways), but curves turn to fat if she doesn't take care of herself. Fit girls are less likely to turn into whales.

29. First need to get my emotional problems fixed, hopefully over the next 9 months or so I can slowly turn that side of my life around. I'm planing on going though BCIT here. Going to get a 2 year IT diploma and get a job in IT. Then work on turning that into their degree while working in low level IT. BCIT is considered a technical institute. Which sounds like community college but isn't. Their reputation is actually higher than most universities in the fields they specialize in. They have a much stronger focus on job level implementation vs theory. At least this fast tracks me into an IT job of some sort. Then I can work on building up an actual life, and other things.

My therapist is a metal bar and almost four hundred pounds of rubber.

It's a love-hate thing. I throw them around, swear at them sometimes, wear myself out, and feel better after.

ICF, I'm concerned about the future.

Aside from a few guys this year (Wayne, Clark, Collie, Mathis, Freeney), the Colts, including the staff, are just fucking up. Plug Manning back in, and things work again, but unless Luck is literally the second coming of Manning-Christ, you guys have a piss poor defense that works because of two aging badass pass rushers, an offense that is totally non-functional without an amazing quarterback, and no coaching abilities. Even with Luck, you might be facing a really dark time ahead.

On the other hand, the Patriots have Brady for a few more years, but our personnel decisions have basically turned to shit in the last several years. Every time we draft a great rookie defense player, when they want more money, we ship them off, and rely on dreams of finding them again through the draft. Instead, the defense is getting nowhere. We needed a rush, everyone knew it, and instead we got more slow and/or washed up linemen. We should mortgage the future for championships now, while Brady is still here, while the offensive line is still solid, while Wes Welker is carrying the entire fucking offense on his shoulders when Brady fucks up. And yeah, Brady keeps fucking up this year, he's forcing throws into guys, instead of looking around for the open man. Welker makes it work because he's got sticky fingers, Gronk makes it work because he's big enough to be a lineman.
