Anyways.

Sergio Brown and Patrick Chung are the safeties, and neither of them are all that good.

Devin McCourty, alongside Kyle Arrington, is the other starting cornerback, and generally, not that impressed.

I think the 1/27 pick should go for a cornerback or maybe a strong safety, and the 1/?? pick should go for a linebacker.

Against the run, RB's usually go outside, inside is a pretty mean environment with Wilfork in the middle. But the linebackers at all positions just don't get there fast enough to seal the edge or block the middle.

And in the event of a pass, the coverage is too soft, letting them get the ball, and then the tackling is poor. We really need some faster players with more sure tackling. I think Spikes will end up doing fine (especially if he follows in the mold of his cousin), so MLB should be a decent position for several years. But the OLB positions are a little weaker. Ninkovich, Fletcher, and Mayo aren't bad per se, but they don't seem fast enough to prevent edge runs, nor to be good pass coverage. Nink is the best pass rusher of them, and that's not much of a statement.

Rudy? It's more like "On 9/11, when I was the mayor of NYC, during the horrific events of 9/11, I learned a lot about leadership because of 9/11, and succeeded in helping NYC through those dark times followed 9/11."

I'd like to say cut three of the four primary, and start looking again. McCourty isn't that good, and his tackling form isn't that good either. Chung really isn't that impressive, and Brown just seems to be MIA. Arrington should be first on the depth chart for CB's right now, and really, given his interceptions, I'd be curious to see if he can make a decent free safety.

But he might not have the play reading talent, speed, or surety of tackling to be an FS, in which case, draft a higher level cornerback, and bump Arrington to second string.

The alternate approach is, of course, find the next Freeney or Peppers, and secure the pass by means of crushing the QB into the dirt every other play.

The trouble is those guys go really early in the draft, and the Patriots never get high draft picks.

P.S. Fuck you, Oakland!
