I'm not on the Atkins diet, but I do watch what I've been eating and I lost about 10 lbs already. I've been bulking up a lot too in the gym so I probably would of lost more weight but muscle weighs more than fat. I just know that I'm doing damn good when my size 36 jeans are flippin big on me, before I started working out I could barely only put the best hole on the second one to the end.

Now I'm on the fourth and almost fifth belt hole. 😀

Atkins works. 'nuff said.

March 2003

January '03 - 90 pounds lighter, and better company 😉

I've got another 60 or so to go. I figure I'll be there by June-July.

So Atkins made you fatter? 😱)

I'm still writing '03 on my checks, too.

I live only on chicken, ground beef, cheese, and water.

I miss Ice Cream the most.

But I break my diet ritual by eating ice cream and cereal every once in a while.

Is this Atkins thing only for grossly overweight people or is it normal & healthy for a normal weight but not in good shape (flabby) person to do? Do you have to stay on this thing for the rest of your life?

Anyone can do it. I don't consider myself grossly overweight, I just wanted to lose weight faster than I was.

Do you have to stay on this thing for the rest of your life?

No, but if you go back to your old eating habbits you will most likely go back to your old weight.

Good. I feel sorry for all the losers on high carb diets who walk around bloated with water.

I feel sorry for all the fat slobs who need to go on diets in the first place. Wait, no I don't.

These "fat slobs" can change a few habits and lose the weight. Changing your arrogant/annoying personality will be a much tougher challenge.

Chiropteran, don't let the a-holes get to you. These people just can't stand to see other people succeed. Knock down the other guy, and all of a sudden it makes their weak self-esteem feel better.

I lost 150 on atkins Chiropteran, once I hit 220 though atkins quickly became harmfull. Your going to get cut, but once you run out of fat to burn you start craving sh*tty foods like you would not believe(mostly just carbs).

You'd best eat lots of Broccoli to keep your ass from tearing apart every time you have to take a crap. Broccoli is for the most part fiber, so eat at least 2 to 4 cups a day.

Good luck man!

ps: I got down to 180 from 350 and usually I'm around 200 or so pounds. Don't get to skinny, believe it or not you become fragile.

Its pretty much impossible that its fat.

Anyway, good luck with this. I started a weight loss program a month ago, but I am doing it the hard way - 45mins of cardio every single day. Its not easy, but I like the fact that I don't have to change my eating habits and that I am getting a really good wrokout...

Why do people think that doing Atkins is not "the hard way", or that it doesn't include exercise? I'm going to go out on a limb and say that you haven't tried cutting down on carbs for a significant period of time.

No matter how you go about doing it, losing weight is a very difficult task... And one that not a whole lot of people are truly successful at over the long run.

Lost 5 pounds the first week and 20 pounds so far in 3 1/2 weeks. As for heart disease being all the rage I limit red meat and don't eat any more meat than I did before. I consider it a balanced diet because I'm eating lean meat and vegetables. There is no need to eat bread/flour ( if you know one please tell me) or fruits. I get any missed nutrients from supplements without the extra carbs and sugar. Most people don't seem to get that the strict eating habits are primarily in the induction phase (min. 2 weeks) and after that you gradually add carbs until weight loss stops. These carbs can be derived from sources other than meats and vegetables. The idea is to know the amount of carbs the body can handle without storing them as fat and staying under that. I get plenty of exercise and my job is physically demanding and a "balanced diet" just wasn't working for me.

Please post a "balanced" diet and show me how it is better than an Atkins based meal plan. No vegans please.

People should read the book it does not advocate eating a fried cow and drinking the oil. Most of the meal recommendations I've seen suggest a 4-6 ounce serving of meat which is no different than the "balanced" diet.

My lipid profile improved tremendously. I likely saved myself from a heart attack.

My doctor couldn't beleive my HDL number as it's consistent with a world class athelete, which I'm not.

You big boys have it easy! I'd much rather diet than have to gain - but I suppose a lot of that is up to genetics. I wish there was a way for us skinny folk to gain weight easier. It's a huge accomplishment for me to gain 10 pounds in 6 months and keep it on.

Some of you fellas have gotten amazing results with dieting and exercise. Nice job!

Wingznut,
sorry if I offended anybody who wasn't the guy that started this thread, that was aimed solely at him, because he felt the need to start insulting other people and their diets, completely unprovoked. He could have at least waited until somebody said Atkins sucked.

Just say no to sugar, white flour, starchy fruits and vegetables and junk/processed foods and keep excercising.

It's a lifestyle change. If you're not committed to making your new habits a way of life, don't start in the first place as you will likely be doing more harm than good.

Broccoli, really. I could do that, I love broccoli. Thanks for the tip. I'm around 215 now, my goal is to get rid of all the visible fat, which I'm guessing would put me around 170-180. Sounds like you had some huge success there.
