Pretty close. I got a CPU score of 5297 on PCMark05 with my Opteron 165 at 2.6GHz
What's your temps like with it at 2.8GHz?

I'm a newby at assembling barebones but have been in IT 30+ years. I got the TD FX-60 barebones bundle and can't get it to work.

I used everything in the bundle. I assembled as best I could, but the machin will not boot.

CPU, Case, and PS fans all spin. Added GeForce 7800GS video, 2 gig Ultra DDR ram in ram slots A1 and A2.
I put the panel connectors on with printed description facing bottom of case.
Use Acer 19" flat panel.

I don't get any beeps or output to monitor, and power-off/power-on gives same result.

I did place all 24 power plug in 24 MB power supply. I don't have anything left to put in the square 2 by 2 plug.

Please Help.

Thank you very much for anything anyone can provide.

The ram needs to go in slots A1 and B1. You also need to attach the other power plug into the other power header. That PSU has the plug, because I have two of those PSU's. Just look again for it and its there.

The manual for the motherboard covers the ram placement. If you have matched pairs they may or may not register as dual channel, and if they do, it might be at 333Mhz.

Spurst is right. Find that 2x2 12v plug on the PSU and plug that in on the motherboard and switch the RAM slots. NForce does not like having RAM installed in adjacent slots if you're only running 2 sticks.

Ram placement does indeed depend on the board. For dual channel on my old Asus A8N-E, you put a stick in each color slot, which were not next to each other. On my current MSI Nforce4 ultra board, MSI-7125, you put the sticks right next to each other in the same color slots for dual channel. This is unusual. It's an OEM board, and does differ from the regular MSI-7125 boards. Prior to this board, I thought all Nforce4 ultra boards had about the same ram setup But, the board in the bundle is not a Nforce board, right?

Sorry to bother you guys again, but:

1) I moved the RAM to slots A1 & B1

2) My PSU is an Ultra 500 Watt ATX with the following;

2 Strands 4 4-Pin Molex and 1 each of 4-Pin floppy

1 Strand 2 SATA plugs

1 Strand 6-Pin (2 X 3 Rows) Plug

1 Strand 8-Pin (2 X 4 Rows) Plug

1 Strand 20-Pin (2 X 10 Rows) Plug with 1 Strand 4-Pin Square (2 X 2) that attaches to the 20-Pin plug.

I tried putting them together for the 24-Pin socket on the MB. With this set-up the fans spin but will not boot If I split them to put the 4-Pin in the ATX12 M/B socket and place the remaining 20-Pin plug in the upper 20 pins of the 24-Pin M/B Socket nothing happens (no PSU fan spin, no case fan spin).

I have read about a 20-Pin to 24-Pin conversion set of sockets , but I also read that 20-Pin will work in the 24-PIN socket.

Again, thank you all for the help. I feel like such an IDIOT!

I just downloaded the manual. It says to use the 24 pin Eatxpwr connector. Page 1-24.
It also says don't forget the 4 pin ATX power connector, otherwise it won't boot up. That's true for any motherboard.

Thats a great deal. I dont want to go to AM2 yet, because i would have to upgrade mobo, memory and CPU. So this is a great deal, use the other parts for a server.

Sounds like there should be TWO 2x2 pin connectors with that PSU. One that attaches to the 20-pin ATX connector and another separate one for the 12v mobo plug.

Also, as an aside, who has recently purchased one of these FX-60's from TD? And if you have, have you overclocked it? If so, what kind of OC's have you gotten?

I posted my results. I'm at 2.8 on stock voltage. I didnt try for any higher. 2.8 runs what I need. From what I've read... they usually do ~3ghz on air. They'll run 3.1-3.2 on water. And with phase-change cooling, the guy got it to like 3.6. GL on 3.6.. very YMMV on that =/

Did you hit 2.8 by changing the multiplier or FSB? My opteron 165 ran stable at 2.4 for the longest time but ever since I flashed the bios I can't seem to get it stable at anthing above 2.2

Well, considering my Opty 146 does 2.85, if I can at least do 2.8 (especially at stock voltage) I'll be happy. I plan to first crank the multi up to 15 and see what happens at 3GHz.

well, i never tried for more. 2.8 was all i wanted, and it was the first thing i tried, actually. lol... i didn't really want to overclock, but i guess it was habit. =)

Note: I am using AS: Ceramique on my HS/Fan and not the stock goop in the blister pack.

In for one of these.

I have an old opteron 144 laying around and some ram, 40 and 80 gig HDDs..monitor, etc. I'm keeping the FX and giving this system to a guy who works for me for his kid. Good way to get rid of old crap and get an FX at same time:)

Any ideas on a cheap PCIe video card?

How cheap?
Newegg has some cheap cards but alot of them are32 and 64 bit.
I found these two that are at least 128 bit cards.
MSI NX6200LE for 30.99 + 4.99 ship
FREETECH PX6200TD for 29.99 after 10.00 MIR +5.64 shipping

edit:
The Feetech has 128 onboard memory. The MSI is 256 enabled with 64MB onboard, (Tu
rbocache model?). The Freetech has a few decent reviews with it.
