yeah, its a 2.6ghz 939 dual core. it actually performs pretty well. I am debatnig on hopping on this deal, because i have 2 gigs of DDR400 i really want to use up.

I'd be upgrading from a normal athlon 64 3400+ skt754 running @ 2.7ghz.

Tiger has the CPU alone for 350.00, that's a pretty good price if you want a FX-60

If it was me, I would get the CPU for .350.00 and buy better parts The board is probably not one of Asus's better ones,SIS chipset. The case is just OK. That CPU deserves better

Very nice looking deal... If I wasn't so strapped for cash this would be my first stop in my pc upgrade.

I've heard horror stories around here and I hate to say it, but I've had no issue with TD since they moved to onrebate.

I also had great luck with any service issues. I mean, they tied me up on phone time, but I had them send me a USB enclosure for a HD 3 times before I had a working one. They ate shipping 2 times off of the original order, never requesting the original product back.

Now... do I want to hop on this order. sigh....

The CPU is about on par with an X2 5200+ (same speed, same cache). Which runs $276 at Newegg (I think the FX's are unlocked though) There is no rebate on this deal.

actually TD has the CPU AND MB bundle for $350 http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications...m-details.asp?EdpNo=2841765&CatId=2020 if you don't care for Ultra case/psu.
Review of this SiS MB is not very good. Although FX-60 was an excellent CPU in 2005 and early 2006 when AMD dominated the performance cpu market for enthusiasts, nowadays you can pair a E6300/P965 MB for $350 and match an FX-60 with a little overclocking, and much less heat. The only good reason of getting an FX-60 is if you are a diehard AMD fan, or you have extra DDR's.

Newegg still has a price of 460.00 on the retail box FX-60 CPU. Better warranty though. You can get a Opteron 165 for 154.00 , and clock it to FX-60 speeds in most cases

well, for me... I have 2 gigs of DDR400 I want to use up. I'm not thrilled with the SIs chipset based board, but I also don't plan on overclocking it. Coming with a cooler and a case, and even a PSU is an added bonus. I need a new case and this one looks decent.

I already have a 500Watt Ultra PSU from the FAR deal a few months ago. However, shipping on HSF's and PSU's and Cases really adds up fast if you dont buy it all together.

I'd have preferred an intel rig, but the cost of the motherboard and DDR2 would have spoiled it for me. An opty 165 also would have been nice, but then again, if I ever want to gain some extra performance, an FX-60 is multi-unlocked. Who knows how the SIS chipset is for overclocking though....

From what I read, these are pretty easy to hit 3.0 with.

The Ultra PSU you got on rebate is probably better than the one in the package. I use the Ultra X-Finity myself. Nice power supply. The FX-60 may or may not overclock better than the Opteron 165. Heat becomes a problem with the stock HSF on either one after about 2.7. You could buy the package and sell the board, and get the Geeks MSI board they have for 42.00 It's great Nforce4 Ultra board. Unlocked multipliers is nice, if a board you use can't overclcok well. The Geeks MSI board is good for over 300 HTT

thanks. i just might do that. I have an Arctic Freezer 64 Pro that I picked up for my athlon 64 3400+ newegg deal. I might end up trying to use that for this setup and seeing if I cant use that stock HSF on my athlon 64.

The only thermal compound i have around here is AS Ceramique though. :)

Strange how Tiger lists the warranty on the OEM FX-60 as 36 months. I think they made a mistake. Should be 1 year for a OEM. I'm not sure what HSF they have in the package. It's not the nice heatpipe AMD HSF one usually gets with the FX-60. The heatpipe AMD HSF is very nice, I use it myself on my Opteron 165 at 2.6GHz
The AC 64 pro may or may not be better than a heatpipe HSF for overclocking. I see mixed reviews for OCing with it. It is very nice HSF for regular use, I used one for months on a 4200+X2 setup.

Damn, Tiger has a FX-60 CPU and some motherboard board called a mach speed for 300.00, after a 20.00 rebate. Hmmmm. Must have been some sort of price drop on the FX-60 while I slept. I see some of the bigger dealers on the bay selling the FX-60 OEM for 350.00 as well. The best I see on Tiger direct for a FX-60 deal is the FX-60 and mach speed mobo combo for 300.00 after 20.00 rebate. Sell the board, get better parts. My opinion, of course.

MachSpeed is a lower-ranked maker with mediocre/poor products, not to mention bad success rate for rebates, from my personal experience.

funny how Tiger has the mach speed board and FX-60 combo for less than the FX-60 alone, even if you don't get the 20.00 rebate.
I didn't check shipping cost though

I wonder if the E4300 coming out is causing a price shift.

As mentioned above, I dont think an FX-60 has ever been this low. FX-60 For 299.00

Shipping was 25.00 to Fla.

Just two days ago, the lowest price I could find for an OEM FX-60 was around 350.00 and that was an open box at the egg.

And then there is this to think about:

VERY IMPORTANT NOTICE REGARDING OUR RETURN POLICY ON CPU'S: Please note that all processors may be returned only for defective exchange. You must purchase a compatible heatsink and fan on the same order as the processor in order to preserve your warranty or exchange privilege. We are not able to accept returns for refunds on processors under any circumstances. All processors will be inspected and tested upon return and any damage caused by poor packaging, overclocking, or other tampering with the processor will be cause for the return to be refused, and exchange denied.

Tiger goes on to say that it will not take the FX-60 back for any reason once you accept it.

So I suppose the heatsink and fan statement doesn't apply anyway. A bit confusing.
