That's what AMD wants; everybody wants a C2D but can't afford it (or they don't want to), so by selling their stuff for super super cheap not only are they a cost-effective alternative to Intel right now, but they are actually pulling in people to buy who wouldn't have bought otherwise. Instead of trying to take away some of Intel's piece of the pie, they're effectively making the pie bigger and taking the extra.

So um, what gives with this 1.9GHz speed? Is it using a 9.5x multi o_O?
Yes.

Would this mean any special settings or considerations when overclocking? Or would it be best to just lower it to 9x?

sadly, i use mine for web surfing :p
i'll put it to good use soon, probably going to run C&C3 and install a few PC games i've been missing out

these are cheap and would be great to throw it into a PC with my spare parts and give to parents to use, etc. cheap and way too powerful for their use.

Thanks for the info Geezerman, good to know. Now I will have to find a home for a spare 939 single core after swapping some around. Are we having fun yet?

I have too many PCs already, but think I need 2 more, this is #1. A sick disease, oh well everyone needs a hobby or two. It'll teach my wife to go home for extended vacations and leave me and the cat alone with sales like this going on. muaahhh!!

nope... higher multi is easier to oc, all things being equal... u have to push the mem less hard... only change the multi if u need to to get a good mem speed if u have to use a mem divider...

Sorry ElCamino, I'm clueless on your Gigabyte board, don't know diddly squat about SLI either, but I still have a k7 Via 7vthx or something Gigabyte that works here ok after 6 years if that counts!!

I do know a LOT of people were getting this CPU with the cheap Biostar Tforce 550 board as a combo deal and thought it was ok. I am going to try a Biostar 690G mATX with mine. My last Biostar (first ever purchased) was DOA with crispy fried broken motherboard traces, hope this one fares better.

I just sold off my AMD 2800+ and ECS NForce 3 for 80$ so I jumped on this deal.

My new setup consists of...

AMD X2 3600+ - 65$
BIOSTAR TFORCE 550 - $69AR
Sapphire X1950GT - $112AR
G. Skill 2GB Ram - $130

I'm quite happy with the upgrade :).

I gotta try that. I've got an ecs nforce3 with a 3100 sempron that might get retired

Don't forget a fan/heatsink that supports AM2. Besides one that explicitly supports it, most/all socket 754/939/940 fan/heatsinks that use the stock retension system should work.

Will an Arctic Cooling Freezer 64 Pro work with it and do I need anything new? I have an ACF 64 Pro that I'm running on a 939 system right now.... do I need anything special (besides new thermal paste) to run it on an AM2 motherboard?

It should, since it clips on to the stock mounts.

Just checked and the included game only goes for around $10 on eBay for the PC version (console version for around $30). Not too valuable.

Well, got a response this morning. The are crediting me $4 even though that isn't what I asked for, and offered me a $20 credit towards R6: Vegas ($45 w/free shipping).

I thanked them for the $4, but passed on the game.

Just got my processor yesterday. Threw it in my Foxconn Nforce 590 SLI board with a Nautilus water cooled setup. Threw a high memory divider on just to work out the processor clocking capability.

Bumped the voltage to 1.4 and left it burning in/SP2004 9.5 x 295 (2.8gHz). That was without much work... If its stable there, I'll mess with it a little more.

Pretty happy so far, I was a bit worried I'd lose some clock speed going from Single to Dual Core, but that's not the case.

I am guessing that this deal will be just as good or better than the price cut deals coming up shortly..?? Anybody know?

I ended up going with the gigabyte sli board, the 3600, the AC 9.99 heatsink/fan, and a gig of g skill ram. Still need to get a vid card and a 2nd gig of ram as $$$ allows. May try selling off my evga 6600gt now

It looks to me almost like Newegg was offerring the cut price ahead of time. I'm guessing they're selling a lot of these, so maybe they have something worked out with AMD.

Yeah, it seems so. I ordered one along with the mobo for the combo.

What do you guys think should I do the same? How much faster is this processor compared to my opty 144@2.4ghz? I have
Opty 144
Asrock 939 Dual Sata
OCZ Plainum DDR 2x1gb

It seems I can get pretty decent resale for these parts still, I am worried If I wait to long they will lose all value.

The AMD X2, Biostar board, and Supertalent deal all look mighty tempting. Maybe I will wait for Core 2 price drops later in April

nice deal, but even at $65...I'd still need to buy a new motherboard and new RAM. So I just upgraded my socket 939 processor from 3200+ to 4000+ instead. I do a complete system upgrade every 2 years...every year I just upgrade the processor, as that is usually the cheapest and everything still works. No game is out right now that I can't handle with ease with my single core.
