I'm pretty close to agnostic. I believe in God, but I don't differentiate between religions -- as far as I'm concerned, they're all pretty much the same and are all equally valid forms of spiritual expression (some exceptions for cults and mormons)
Just out of curiosity, what is it you have against Mormons, specifically? I'm kinda curious about how much you really know about them and, no, I am not Mormon.
I've read a couple of books about Mormons Fundamentalists....they as a whole, are pretty messed up in a lot of ways.

i am an atheist. i believe in mathematics, science, and technology. back then, people used God(s) as a way to explain unknown phenomena and such. now we don't need such excuses and i think there is a reason behind everything in the world and universe. i respect everyone's views and everyone should respect other's. religion still serves a purpose today, but not as great. i'm not a religious or politics freak, but i think that waging war (Jihad) because God told you to is a dumb idea.

The only reason you think the fairy analogy is faulty is because the comparison is right on, and it's now staring you in the face, God is equal to faires. There is an equal amount of proof that supports fairies as does God, which is none. By your reasoning, if more people believed in faires, it would make them more real, correct? That's is the most absurd arguement I've heard in a while. The facts are, God doesn't exist until proven. It's not my job to prove there is NOT a God, it's your belief, so it then become your responsibilty to prove there IS a God. The burden of proof is on you. Otherwise, I can claim fairies, PeterPan, Big Foot, The Loch Ness Monster, Shrek, Alf, Santa Clause, and many other magical and fun creatures exist and say, "prove they DON'T exist." It simply doesn't work that way. Why? Because you can't disprove a negative. Like I said, the burden of proof is on you. You made it up, now you need to back it up. It's as simple as that.Originally posted by: WinstonSmith

The magic faries analogy is faulty because no one really believes it. You are a magic typing turtle. I can't prove it one way or another, however it is a trivial diversion.

If there is a reason behind everything in this world and universe, what is the reason for you being here? I can see now that our society is constantly becoming more advance that people are turning athiest due to scientific views, but If you get down to the basic principles of science, a theory is not proven till evidence is shown. What theory has been proved factual that there is no god? Of course you can say the opposite, what evidence is there that there is a god?
I was raised as catholic and I am still today. The reason I have kept to my beliefs is because every time this issue has come up in science classes..etc, it has always come down to the conclusion that science has never proved to me that there is no god. Having the bible and witnessed miracles first hand has kept me bound to my religion. Athiests can attack that statement, feel free, but I have seen more proof that god is present than he is not.
I know there are people who suffer every day due to war, sickness, poverty, and crime. Why god lets these things happen is beyond me. In the end, we will all know the answer.
