 Care to read these & rethink that statement? 123

First thread:
"Ever hear of Separation of Church and StATOTe!?!"
", keep that crap out of OT please. "

In the last thread you linked: "They are arrogant freaks. They believe in a religion that has a built-in superiority complex. Is it any wonder that the worlds turmoil is a product of fighting among the Abrahamic religions? The world would be better without Chrisitianity and Islam. "
"You mean Campus Cult right?"

Don't feel like reading through all the infinite pages that people have posted...Also look at how each of the threads started out...The first, obviously Christian, wasn't an intent to convert everyone...It was merely written to help people who wanted it...The last two came out ranting against Christianity and religion, and in the last thread's case, because of a select few who chose to share their faith...You don't HAVE to listen, you can just politely say "I'm not interested" and walk away...

Or admitting that the sentiment you gave examples of is a minority, apparently ;)

If you can't see the obvious arrogance & hypocrisy in your viewpoint and reply, I guess this angle of debate can go no further. Even your assumption that "crap" referred not to any dogma spewed in OT in an attempt to convert people, but to christianity in particular, points toward your bias.

 I've been called a lot of things, but unsure isn't one of them. I'd wager I'm far more sure in my beliefs than you are. Actually, your self-contradiction (telling me I'm too stubborn to look at anything else, then telling me I'm unsure of myself), in addition to your huge ego (you must think you're a god yourself for having studied religion, you've brought it up no fewer than five times) belies your own fragile ego & religious uncertainty.

im sure you'll be called many more things in the times to come. i'd take that wager. i dont see the contradiction, you're perfectly able to remain stubborn in your uncertainty. my ego has only been used here as a dummy for your insults. How could I prove my certainty here? What gain would it provide? From which angle am I most certain? I am most certain that no matter which angle I choose, you cannot follow. Your mind has predetermined the course it will follow. To you I can only admit that I am uncertain, even though my experience protests otherwise. I can only admit that I am arrogant, even though my actions protest otherwise. I can only admit that I am hypocritical even though my words protest otherwise. In short, you could only follow my view if it destroys itself entirely and begs your pardon.

the texts i read are hidden from your eyes, for good reason
6 times :p What reason, btw?

The lips of wisdom speak only to the ears of understanding

I see no reason to read fiction unless I enjoy it. I see nothing enjoyable about your suggested reading. FWIW I was raised casually roman catholic, but it just never made any sense to me. I surmise I'm missing the religion gene(s).

I haven't suggested any reading, you assume that I would have you read the bible. I would like to say of the texts I have read, the bible is the least useful. Have you read the Tao Te Ching? The Dhammapadda? The Book of that which is concealed? The Vedas & Upanishads? The Emerald Tablets? Corpus Hermeticum? Book of the dead (tibetan and egyptian)? The Book of Lies? The Zend Avesta? Tanakh and Talmud? Kaballah? Urantia Book? The Koran? Have you ever learned a new language just so you could translate a book for yourself?

I am? All I'd like is for a thread spouting atheism to be taken the same was as one spouting christianity. My experiment has proven this can't be because peoples' perception of reality is too clouded by their belief. Being discriminated against by an arrogant majority sucks.

It is generally being taken the same, except instead of you crapping someone elses' thread they are crapping yours. Your experiment has proven nothing except that the internet and ATOT are still functioning as they usually do, and that the wise are still attempting to educate the foolish. For as much discrimination as you offer you'd think that you could handle a taste of your own medicine.

Also see my above response to sao123 on why this thread exists. Odd that you stroke your ego at every opportunity by letting us know, beyond the shadow of a doubt, that you read - yet apparently did no more than skim over the OP ;)

See above about my ego's part in this. I read the OP, wasn't worth responding to. I posted my own paraphrase of the truth behind the matter and you replied. Obviously you didn't mind that I didnt reply in full if you do now, too bad. I could offer alternative angles for anything you present just the same as you could do mine. In fact, we've long exhausted what little benefit that we could achieve in this discussion. Argumentation is necessarily circular, leading nowhere until one of us dies or has found the way to say what we wanted in a way that transcends both sides of the argument. I don't need you to argue your side though, I could post for you if you want (mostly just condescending ridicule and semantic hairsplitting right?), the real question is could you argue my side as good as me?

Nope, just one more of your endless & arrogant assumptions. I'd assumed religious and philosophical texts, neither of which interest me or have anything to offer me.

No, I haven't wasted my time. I see you're still boosting your ailing self esteem in the usual manner... It's kind of sad really.

You still insist it's being taken the same despite my "links-for-the-lazy"? Your precious reading skills must be failing you. I'm not attempting to educate you or the others; I know you're too biased, closeminded and arrogant for it to penetrate. I just enjoy giving your type a taste what it dishes out.
the real question is could you argue my side as good as me?
As good as you? Sure. "god exists because I'm smart, I read! No, really I am, and I'm better than you! Did I mention I read? Man, I rock because I read. j00 r suxx0r!1!!11 Hey guys, I read! That means god exists". It's your argument in a nutshell and why I don't believe for a moment that you're older than about 15. People in their 20s aren't nearly as pretentious or concerned with posturing - at least, not those capable of turning on a PC and navigating to AT... no, my guess is your immaturity is age-related, as is much of that on AT. I could say that I likely read far more than you or spout what I've tested on real IQ tests too, but it speaks only of immaturity and uncertainty; there's simply no need. Besides, I haven't wasted a good bit of my life assuming fiction was history and studying it as such. That alone speaks volumes more than an IQ-based comparison ;)

there we go, the heart of the matter, you are dreadfully underqualified in debating me, if you had any interest in things outside of your own field of vision i might make an attempt, but you dont.

You want to debate me on fiction. You might as well watch a soap opera, ask me why Taylor dumped Chase and proclaim your superiority when I couldn't care less about the answer. Further, you could never debate atheism as well as I could. The problem is that it'd be an unenjoyable waste of time, whereas I enjoy pointing a mirror at people like yourself and watching you squirm :)

All i'd have to do imagine what it's like to be blind, because truly, where I see everything you see nothing. You see a bunch of people and say 'they are wrong, i will not waste my time on them' where I say 'they are right, i will enjoy this time with them'. You see a bunch of words and say 'this is a waste' whereas I say 'poor is the man who sees waste here'. you are the waste, not the words. you are the ear that cannot hear, and the eye that cannot see. i look closely and share in the experiences of others, you look far off and remain trapped within yourself.

Lighten up guys. Live your lives the way you see fit and try not to attack your fellow man - or groups of fellow Earthlings for that matter (entire denominations are denounced here on a daily basis). I see way too many threads beginning with "___ sucks" (not that this is one). Ever hear of a concept called respect? If I don't sh!t on your lawn, you don't sh!t on mine and we peacefully co-exist, the end. To each his own - a pretty stagnate and cliche concept in this day & age, especially with globalization and the apparent shrinking of our world in so many ways. But it rings true.

For those of you that think you are actually going to get something figured out through intelligent and well-spoken posts which still boil down to "___ sucks", good luck. After you convince the ATOT community that your viewpoint is the proper one, the right one, the only one - you can continue with the remainder of the human race which does not share your views. At the ripe old age of 962, when your task is completed, let me know if it was worth it - or if you should have just "lived your life to the fullest" and minded YOB.

finally.... a worthy post :)

Ah yes, now I see - you're right and I'm wrong. Your examples of this are infallible - quotes from fictitious books. How could I be so naive?

No, I enjoy fiction as well - just not your brand of it. I also don't think I'm better than others for having read it, though I believe at heart you don't due to arrogance but rather due to deep feelings of inferiority, and I think that's rather sad.

Link to where I said this? Oh wait, there is none - you have to put words in my mouth to have an argument :p

I only want the same liberties christians have. How many here have called me names or otherwise put me down while telling the OP of the Campus Crusade thread that if he didn't want to hear it, it was his own fault for listening? That the girl in question in said thread was only trying to help? Do you not see the hypocrisy?

Further, follow the thread before slinging insults. In addition to an invite to serious discussion, this thread was also an experiment (one which was quite successful in proving that most people are idiotic, hypocritical assholes) and a half-facetious answer to the bible-spewing thread. I wouldn't even have posted if not for a slip of the mouse when I didnt' even have a sentence written. All stuff you'd know had you read before responding

Actually I did read the entire thread.
First, I was not one of those who called you a troll for posting an aethiestic thread.
You are entitled to post and believe as you wish, just as the bible posters and everyone else. The reason you are a troll is because you started an aetheist thread to try to prove your belief that all religious people are hypocrites. If you actually had started this thread with an open mind to actually discuss rather than to ridicule, I dont think most of the people would call have called you a troll, religious or not.

My comment stating "your idea of equality is that all the worlds religions would cease to exist in favor of your own philosophy that no God exists", was directed at all your comments that until someone can prove that a/any god(s) exists, anyone who believes in any religion that is associated with any god(s) is a substandard moron to your perfectly logical self. Just because something cannot be proved does not make it invalid. A true logitician knows that to invalidate a claim, it must be proven false.

The funny thing about religious threads. Is you keep posting them and hoping someday someone will come into the thread and be the Anandtech of religion and just have all the answers. But it never happens. Because nobody has the answers. Its like asking the meaning of life. Some might claim to know, some might claim there is no meaning, but it doesn't matter because NO ONE HAS THE ANSWER.

Just be happy that some realize there is no answer :)

Apparently then you didn't read the thread, as this was a small factor in the post. The largest was an inadvertant mouseclick - the original post read something like "." - I had meant to close the window :p

Where did I say this? Perhaps if the shoe fits...? I've merely debated that issue. I've questioned (and rightly so) the intelligence of those who preach tolerance while discriminating against atheists.

Disagree, I think absence of evidence is pretty good evidence of absence. Not proof, certainly - but then we don't have proof of a lot of things which are, for all intents & purposes, fact; evolution, the periodic table of the elements, etc.

One of the biggest problems facing religion's credibility is the complete lack of evidence supporting the existence of a deity or deities.

Yours is arrogance to think you can "Prove" with some human test that there is a God.

This is the tip of the iceberg, of course, I'd write more but I'd rather discuss it if it comes up and tbh I'd probably have closed the window without having posted anything within 30 seconds if I didn't somehow manage to click post.

All your BS that would have followed would have been a repost.

In fact the Christian bashing thread is the MOST COMMON repost here n00b. Yea I see 9000+ post but since you seem so enlighten to post this ever so posted Christian bashing thread I'm calling you out as a n00b. Boy Eledan would have loved you. Maybe you'll lose it as many others have about this and just get the BOOT!

Go ahead and lay into me I'm not coming back to this turd of a post it needs to be flushed with the rest. This is not to flame others just OP's that think this is an original topic to post. Honestly I wish some other Christians would not post here as I think it doesn't help.

Acutally, if you considered this, its the only time any normal person talks to their own head. I bet if you talked to yourself in your head, the same part of the brain would be active.

Religious beliefs have been proven wrong over the centuries. When the religions were in power, they would have people hung or burned at the stake for disagreeing with their beliefs. The main example that comes to mind is "the Earth is the center of the universe". Scientists were banished for trying to argue otherwise.

I guess it's the people who represent these religions that really screw it up for people who want to believe there's a god. For people who want to know the real answer to which was first: the chicken or the egg. I don't think any religion has it exactly right. But what's wrong with saying people should be good to each other? and why does that have anything to do with how the universe was created?
