At 19 I moved into the dorms (doesn't count). At 21 I moved into an apt with my GF with no financial support from my parents.

18 -- went to college. Did not "go home for summers". Went year round and did a 6 month internship out of state my junior year. Paid for about 75% of my schooling myself.

At 22, I lived with my Mom for six months after graduation while looking for my first job.

ATOT answer: I was 9 when I realized I had to be a man and get a damn job and stop sucking from the parental teat.

Real answer: I was 25 when I moved out (by like a week, I had just turned 25). It's frigging expensive to live in California, it took me a few years until I made enough to afford my own place without eating ramen every night. Now I'm 31 and married and looking to buy a house.

26. Tried saving as much as I could so as to buy a house and skip the whole renting thing. Houses ae friggin' dough around here though. I was banking a decent amount of money, but still had a ways to go before having that decent size down payment I wanted. Did some math and figured out when I'd have that down payment and it was looking like another 2 years. I didn't want to be 28-29 and still living at home so I got my own place. Will take me longer to get that down payment together but it feels good to be on my own.
Besides living at home didn't seem fair to the parents. My mom didn't mind it, but my dad and I were always scrapping over something stupid. I figure it probably stemmed from the fact that having me there was getting in the way of their retirement plans. Maybe they wanted to move to some place warmer but couldn't do it without kicking me out. They did me a favor letting me stay as long as they did. The good thing is I'm financially sound now and they don't have to worry about me having to move back in ever. A couple of my friends who moved out ended up back at home a year or two later, full of debt because they couldn't afford it or did not manage their money well.

18 for college. Moved back after quitting my first job at 23. Still living with them now as I'm paying off their mortgage and I can't afford that and a place of my own yet in NYC. Been about 4 years.

Moved to Killington, VT with 2 friends and got jobs as snowmakers. All I wanted to do back then was ski and snowboard.

Moving out is so over-rated. Thirty and going strong and still at home. If they want me to move out they'd better build me a house in the backyard.

No haters, please.

My brother in law has you beat. He is 48 and still lives with his mom. Never moved out.

I'm moved out when I was 20.

My uncle is 52 and still lives with his parents. Yes, I am serious.

I don't see how going to college counts as moving out, since you still don't have your own place that you pay for by yourself, and you go home on breaks/summer. I'm 18 and in college but I haven't 'moved out' yet, will probably move out when I'm 22-23 (done w/ college and get a job)

went to college at 17... mostly stayed in my college town on winter/summer breaks whenever possible.

I moved back home briefly at 22 and again (briefly... like, 3 months) at 25.

Hah... my uncle WOULD be 52 and living with his parents, but he died 2 years ago. At some point he was married and had a kid, but he got divorced and moved back in. He was an alcoholic, he really couldn't survive on his own.
