AT&T: iPhone4s orders now taking 7-14 days

Ordered this morning for the gf...

Your iPhone has been reserved and is expected to be delivered on Oct 14, 2011.

Ordered 5 minutes ago for myself:

Your iPhone will ship in approximately 14-21 days.

I ordered mine in store at 9AM. I have a 14-21 days as well, and my order status lists it as back-ordered. :\ It really grinds my gears that the AT&T clerk at the store told me that I would be able to get it on the 14 if I ordered it from the store this morning. If I knew that all orders were placed in a queue regardless of where you ordered it from, I would have just stayed up until 3 AM (like usual) and bought it online.

I'm usually not one to be an irate consumer, but I'm really tempted to let that AT&T store know how I feel about their misinformation. :|

what finally broke you down? 🙂

Out of curiosity, why wasn't Apple Online Store a better option? It wasn't for me in the wee hours because it kept error'ing out (pretty sure it was AT&T's fault as usual).

Hearing that intl already on 7-14 day wait. Ordered one for myself "just in case" but I haven't made a decision yet. Going to AT&T store tomorrow to see if they got an sgs2 for $200 AND keep my unlimited.

I mean really, the ONLY hangup I have on the 4gs is the screen...

I got att premier and grandfathered data so doing it direct from att was the easiest. I played around with the apple site last night and didn't want to risk the options presented to me.

very good point. AT&T fixed its Premier ordering sometime after 2 a.m. PT. Must be a new record for them in customer service. 😀

You may want to check your features page... mine lists my grandfathered unlimited plan as ending on November 29, 2011 now. I asked someone I know to check their page (they have an iPhone 4), and theirs does not list an end date.

thanks, I don't see an end date for grandfathered unlimited data.

Some folks who ordered on Apple.com reported it was removing unlimited data for iPhone 4 and replacing it with unlimited data for "iPhone 4S". Gotta love AT&T.

Data Unlimited for iPhone
$30.00 N/A Unlimited Current

this is all I see

I actually tried to buy the SGS2 twice but the ATT site wouldn't apply the $100 discount from $299

Well, I reserved mine through Fido. They have no idea when it will be available other than my position in line is 2100, whatever that means. They'll start coming out on October 14th. I've got almost $100 "Fido Dollars" to spend so I splurged on the 32gb white 4S.

I went and talked to a guy at the AT&T store a little bit ago, and I asked about that among other things. He said it would be doing just that... replacing it with an unlimited 4GS version of the same data plan.

first reports coming in

Apple’s long term carrier parter AT&T has announced that they have processed 200,000 pre orders for the iPhone 4S, making the new Apple smartphone the most successfully launched iPhone yet. These 200,000 orders only come during the first 12 hours of sales, which started around midnight. Notably, these are just AT&T’s numbers and don’t include Apple’s own online pre-orders or the orders through Apple’s other U.S. carrier partners, Verizon Wireless and Sprint.

AT&T has seen extraordinary demand for iPhone 4S with more than 200,000 preorders in the first 12 hours alone, the most successful iPhone launch we’ve ever had. It’s obvious customers like AT&T’s 4G network, which is the only one that lets their iPhone download twice as fast and talk and surf simultaneously.

The iPhone 4S officially launches on Friday, October 14th and features a substantial internal upgrade from the iPhone. This includes the dual-core A5 processor from the iPad 2, a re-designed camera system with an eight megapixel back sensor and an improved optics system, improved battery life, and of course the headlining integration of Siri artificial intelligence technology. This 200,000 pre-order number for AT&T can be compared to 600,000 total pre-orders (on all carriers) on day one of iPhone 4 pre-orders last year.

Update: Sprint has sold out of the 16GB iPhone 4S.

I got the grandfathered unlimited data and am on AT&T premier without issue. I'm annoyed with the inability to keep my existing text messaging plan. Probably going to go to a store to do my actual purchasing on the 14th.

I went through most of the order process on Apple.com and it gave me the option for unlimited @ $30/mo. I don't see how the wires could get crossed if you select it.

Apple.com still has delivered on Oct 14th for all models it seems.

My wife orderd a 4s 16g on Verizon this morning. She got a $30 "loyalty" credit too so it was like $180 or so after tax. I'll have to see what her shipping date is.

If AT&T sold 200k...I wonder how many orders Big Red took...

Ns1 and I can confirm upgrading through ATT.com keeps your grandfathered data and SMS features. If you don't mind the 7-14 day wait for delivery.

As you know, Apple's Online Store doesn't show the grandfathered SMS packages nor your FAN discount explicitly.

If I had to guess, VZ probably booked between 150k up to 200k unit sales in the first 12 hour period.

Same thing with Verizon now. I was going to order one last night, and it was the 14th, but I couldn't decide if I wanted it so I didn't order. Finally decided today to order one and if I don't like it (switching from an OG Droid) to return it, but I was given the 1-2 weeks timeframe. Oh well.

Spent most of yesterday waffling about whether or not to order or wait for the Samsung conference, finally ordered yesterday afternoon from AT&T site to upgrade my 3GS. Got the 14-21 day timing. Oh well. On the chance I want to cancel the pre-order, anyone have an idea how difficult that would be?

shouldn't be difficult to call and cancel before Thursday, but maybe I shouldn't assume anything with AT&T. 🙂

I have no idea how AT&T would handle upgrade eligibility for a subsidy after you cancel (in theory, your line should remain eligible).

Ha, good point. If the 14-21 days is accurate I wonder if I can cancel before it ships without any adverse consequences (remaining eligible for an upgrade, etc.).

Something to check on Monday, I suppose.

I don't think that you use up your upgrade until you activate your new phone, and of course, returning it would restore your upgrade eligibility.

Preordered w/ AT&T @ 0200 Fri, got confirmation, went to bed. Got a call from my bank today, charge declined due to suspected "fraudulent activity". Gave them my blessing, called AT&T . . . and they lost my order, new wait time up to 30 days.

Debating whether to take my chances on release day or if I should just wait the 1-2 weeks thru Apple. Never ordering thru AT&T. Never. Ever. Again.

Yet the haters keep calling the 4S a failure.

MotionMan

They're just POed that it's not a major leap. I guess they were expecting something that would thoroughly spank the Galaxy S II, rather than something "merely" on par with it.

Out of the iPhones, only the original and the 4 were truly earth shattering. The rest were just incremental updates. That's what the 4S is.
