very good point. AT&T fixed its Premier ordering sometime after 2 a.m. PT. Must be a new record for them in customer service. 😀I got att premier and grandfathered data so doing it direct from att was the easiest. I played around with the apple site last night and didn't want to risk the options presented to me.
thanks, I don't see an end date for grandfathered unlimited data. You may want to check your features page... mine lists my grandfathered unlimited plan as ending on November 29, 2011 now. I asked someone I know to check their page (they have an iPhone 4), and theirs does not list an end date.

Some folks who ordered on Apple.com reported it was removing unlimited data for iPhone 4 and replacing it with unlimited data for "iPhone 4S". Gotta love AT&T.
Apple’s long term carrier parter AT&T has announced that they have processed 200,000 pre orders for the iPhone 4S, making the new Apple smartphone the most successfully launched iPhone yet. These 200,000 orders only come during the first 12 hours of sales, which started around midnight. Notably, these are just AT&T’s numbers and don’t include Apple’s own online pre-orders or the orders through Apple’s other U.S. carrier partners, Verizon Wireless and Sprint.
AT&T has seen extraordinary demand for iPhone 4S with more than 200,000 preorders in the first 12 hours alone, the most successful iPhone launch we’ve ever had. It’s obvious customers like AT&T’s 4G network, which is the only one that lets their iPhone download twice as fast and talk and surf simultaneously.
The iPhone 4S officially launches on Friday, October 14th and features a substantial internal upgrade from the iPhone. This includes the dual-core A5 processor from the iPad 2, a re-designed camera system with an eight megapixel back sensor and an improved optics system, improved battery life, and of course the headlining integration of Siri artificial intelligence technology. This 200,000 pre-order number for AT&T can be compared to 600,000 total pre-orders (on all carriers) on day one of iPhone 4 pre-orders last year.
Update: Sprint has sold out of the 16GB iPhone 4S.
Ns1 and I can confirm upgrading through ATT.com keeps your grandfathered data and SMS features. If you don't mind the 7-14 day wait for delivery.I got the grandfathered unlimited data and am on AT&T premier without issue. I'm annoyed with the inability to keep my existing text messaging plan. Probably going to go to a store to do my actual purchasing on the 14th.
shouldn't be difficult to call and cancel before Thursday, but maybe I shouldn't assume anything with AT&T. 🙂Spent most of yesterday waffling about whether or not to order or wait for the Samsung conference, finally ordered yesterday afternoon from AT&T site to upgrade my 3GS. Got the 14-21 day timing. Oh well. On the chance I want to cancel the pre-order, anyone have an idea how difficult that would be?

I have no idea how AT&T would handle upgrade eligibility for a subsidy after you cancel (in theory, your line should remain eligible).
Ha, good point. If the 14-21 days is accurate I wonder if I can cancel before it ships without any adverse consequences (remaining eligible for an upgrade, etc.).
Something to check on Monday, I suppose.
Yet the haters keep calling the 4S a failure.
