The indoor church (?) shot is terrific.

We need to see the photos your GF got .... Fuji vs. Nikon ... GO !

I appreciate that coming from you, all your work you post here is fantastic ... but the church shot was luck more than anything. I didn't realize just how lucky it was until I was touching it up, thinking about the odds of the sun being in the exact right spot in the sky at the exact right time of year during the short time my photographer-noob self happened to be standing in the front of an empty cathedral.

Anyway ... the Fuji is gonna win every time! It's an old Nikon, roughly the era of my last Canon digital camera. I am consistently surprised how much I can pull back highlights and push shadows on these newer RAW files, and how much more consistent autofocus is. The nicer optics doesn't hurt either for sharpness and color since I certainly wasn't buying L glass back in the day.

I bet modern Nikon would match or beat Fuji in most categories but size and weight

Interesting ...... that sounds very unfortunate. I can't decipher the legalese; does it matter that our pics are hosted elsewhere and we are simply posting links?

iirc adobe went through something similar back when they updated the terms of a hosting platform.

afaik, and just speaking as someone who's mildly interested in this sort of thing, and also someone used to legalese, you pretty much have to give purch a license so that other people can read what you post on this board. otherwise, purch would be republishing your content without your consent. further, this board is run commercially, so the license has to cover that. even more further, purch needs the ability to change message board systems and technologies without running afoul of the limited license being granted. or maybe, if there's something particularly amazing posted by someone here, highlighting it on the front page (which has been done before).

so, you get the language that accomplishes that.

What 105 are you shooting with? Some of those are extraordinarily sharp with good color.

if it's the same one which i think it is, price has increased quite a bit since i got it. i remember reading very favorable reviews about the sharpness of this lens and while I'm a relative noob, I have to say i've been extremely satisfied with it. it has spent more time on my camera than my 18-55 kit or 11-16 ultrawide by far since i've bought it, which is saying a lot given what it is. i love shooting with it. it's far heftier than my other two lenses, but this doesn't bother me one bit. i have zero complaints about any aspect of the construction, feel/handling or performance with this thing, and when I use it properly, the results look really great to my eye.

whereas with my ultrawide (tokina 11-16 f/2.8, also a great lens), there are times where i seem to have a harder time telling whether or not i've nailed the focus, which never happens with the 105 or even the 18-55. i originally bought the 105 with the intention of throwing myself into macro and "maybe do some portraits at some point" since it was supposed to be real good for that too. but i've found myself enjoying it for so much more than that. or maybe it's also partly that damn, macro can be challenging... haha

My nonflowering plants professor had a 105mm f2.8 nikkor micro. He used it for moss.

The gum wall in Seattle. The alley was fairly dim so I had my lens wide open, but in hindsight I really had more room to go up with the ISO that would've let me stop this down a bit more for more depth of field. Still kinda cool to zoom way in and see how thin the depth of field is at f/2.8.

New toy. A bit of overkill, but got a few photo jobs in the past 3 weeks that helped subsize the cost.

Definitely some skill and learning to be done, not instant magic, but is amazing when you nail the picture.

Used it for a birthday party yesterday, got some great pics and some not so great ones.

Linked some full size pictures, one is a macro with an old Nikon 55/3.5, the other with the Voigtlander 40/1.4. They've been processed and what not, so not like SOOC amazeballs pictures.

Camera is like the least most important part of the whole process, but good to have a nice one.
