First, Core i5 4200U still exists in Laptops around the world.

Secondly and most importantly, cheapest Core i5 4300U Laptop starts at ~1000 Euros when the ACER Aspire E5-551-T8X3 with the Kaveri A10-7300 is at 499,00.

So, who is biased ???

Most of them are older notebooks, so of course they'll be cheaper than Core i5 4300U/4310U versions. Then again, Core i5 4300U/4310U costs the same as 4200U according to Intel ARK, and they manage to beat AMD's brand new 19W chips even in MT tasks (let alone ST). Oh, and I can easily see Intel closing the gap on iGPU performance with Broadwell in a few months, but that discussion doesn't belong here. :)

That's over a month ago. You never see crap like this with Intel.

Really ??? Haswell Laptops were 4-6 months late.

But when you have people complain about single core performance in Cinebench and the one month delay availability it only shows how good the product is ;)

So you want us to compare a 1000 Euros Laptop against 499 Euros Laptop just because the Core i5 4300U was released in 2014 ???

Idle
A10-7300 = 8h 01m
Core i5 4200U = 8h 22m (50 Wh battery)

WiFi Surfing
A10-7300 = 4h 40m
Core i5 4200U = 6h 11m (50 Wh battery)

DVD
A10-7300 = 3h 20m
Core i5 4200U = 4h 36m (50 Wh battery)

Load Max
A10-7300 = 2h 00m
Core i5 4200U = 2h 07m (50 Wh battery)

This is a disaster. Even with a 12% larger battery it cant even reach 3/4 of the battery life of intel during typical usage scenarios. You can get a vivobook with a i5-4200U for $349. You can get a surface pro 2 for $450 (@ Staples). What market is AMD even serving here? Even an i5 equipped macbook air is only $200 more than this.

Some were. Several were available 2-3 weeks later. Kaveri won't have significant presence until next year from the looks of things.

Battery Life Aspire E5-551-T8X3 vs VivoBook S301LA-C1033H

Idle
A10-7300 = 8h 01m
Core i5 4200U = 7h 12m

WiFi Surfing
A10-7300 = 4h 40m
Core i5 4200U = 5h 38m

DVD
A10-7300 = 3h 20m
Core i5 4200U = 5h 10m

Load Max
A10-7300 = 2h 00m
Core i5 4200U = 2h 20m

So you have lower System and Graphics performance with the Vivo in order to get higher Battery Life. But Vivo is 13.3" and the other is 15.6".

Yes, and Broadwell just improves on that. Mobile Kaveri will be a non-product for the mobile market.

Listing battery mAh is misleading if we are trying to compare energy efficiency, the Acer notebook's battery actually has energy capacity of 56Wh compared to the Asus's 38Wh.

Obviously Im comparing the end product (The Laptops) not the APUs. But as i have said, the ASUS Vivo is a 13.3" when the ACER has a 15.6" Screen and they are not directly compete.

At the 15.6" space, you can compare the HP and the other ACER Haswell Laptops against the Kaveri ACER Laptop. Links above. At 499 Euros the Kaveri Laptop is better with higher Battery life than the other Haswell ACER Laptops and it is also Cheaper.

during Athlon X2 days, AMD fanboys got to that level of cockiness too. Be careful now, it might be AMD's turn to unleash their own CORE

Yeah, yeah. Jim Keller alone will outdesign everyone. K12 will take AMD to eleven.

@AtenRa: I think the AMD A10-7300 based models look nice. But I'd like one that is 13", 256+ GB SSD, 1080p+ IPS display, and lower weight (~1.3 kg). Obviously the price will be higher. But have you found any such model?

Oh my...
are you saying AMD can only pay one guy to work? Get real dude, this line is getting old

Look at what product lines make money for AMD today, look at the scope of a new "core" processor. Would you risk again taking on Intel when tied to a subpar foundry partner despite only making money for a brief period of your entire history and when you did have access to bleeding edge foundry nodes, or would you put more money on the business that pay your bills and is suitable to your subpar foundry partner?

Because that's AMD choice, and I don't think the right answer is that hard.

You have to make up your mind. You mentioned one guy and when confronted with some facts you coming back firing at will LOL. Calm down, all i want to say is that nothing is guaranteed, not even for Intel. They can comeback with another great CPU and i know Intel will quickly react, so don't put things as if this scenario is impossible.

Premium designs are pretty much reserved to Intel. I wouldn't hold my breath...
