#3 is moot as any REAL forum software limits the avatar size.

Actually 2 is fairly too because there are usually rules about that. Never a problem over at XS, heck the GIFs aren't either.

the move over shouldn't be hard as fuse is well established like VB.

You have a set of users, a set of posts, a set of avatars, a set of sigs, a set of topics, etc. It's all easily containerized. For things that don't have a direct match you set a default.

If only it were that easy.

I don't think FuseTalk is that bad. The big issue will be migrating the database from MS SQL 2003 to mySQL, that's going to take the most amount of time. Configuring VB will take some time as well.

vB only supports MySQL? That kind of sucks.

BTW Derek, have you tried using their conversion tool on a test database of the new fusetalk? I actually think it might work because from what I remember each time a new version of fusetalk is released they add new tables for any new information that needs to be stored, but no tables from the previous versions are removed. I was able to get old Fusetalk 4 and old Fusetalk 3 to use the same database and have both of them work simultaneously with no modification.

Especially when people post pics from a vacation or wedding or something. Yeah they may just post a link to the folder but then they have a milliion pictures you have to sift through. Better when they could pick the best and embed them here.

Custom Avatars! Everyone else on the flippen internet does it and has no problem.

Rightclick + t = open picture in new tab.
Not that hard.

Unless you use IE, which moronically has no "new tab" hotkey from the right-click context menu,

My friend, let me introduce you to something that will rock your world... middle click. Just push down on your mouse wheel (assuming you have one... this being 2008, you should), it'll open a new tab in Firefox. Not sure about IE7, I'm still using IE6.

I use CTRL+Left Click since I have no middle button.

Using the mousewheel doesn't automatically switch to the new tab.

NO. Jesus people. Fusetalk has supported images since day one. It's Anandtech that does not allow them.

That's something I've come to appreciate.

Me too. For the vast majority of threads it keeps things clean, fast and readable.

A few threads based on images do suffer, and I usually just skip them. If there was an option to start your topic normally, but ask that the mods enable images for that single thread, I would support it.

Start topic as usual, but put *IMAGE* at the start of the topic title. Mods then look and determine if the thread should be enabled per guidelines. If it is, images are turned on and the *IMAGE* indicator is retained so all readers know they're clicking that thread at peril to their bandwidth and the possibility of someone posting inappropriate images since the last mod read.

Short of something like that though I think allowing images would do much more harm than good.

you give too much credit to our posters...most forget to put NSFW or worse state it is SFW but because they are adblocking they didn't see Little Suzie take in 17" of Horse cock in the page header.

Derek. If/when you move to VB, please leave things they way they are. No custom avatars or pics or any of that crap.

The clean interface is one of the big reasons I've been here for as long as I have.

 Couldn't agree more. Too many forums have the look of MySpace with all the flashing and animation in sigs/avatars. The clean and professional look of this forum is one of the great things about it.

I will say an avatar goes a long way though esp in identifying posters.

I don't disagree with custom avatars but I think they should not be open to new members (a lot of boards do this)...give everyone a nice gallery to choose from though at least.

I don't disagree with inline images so much either but if one does post something that is offensive in a general forum then the penalties must be harsh.

You don't see too many fusetalk forums though and this gave ATOT a bit of uniqueness. I liked the old UBB too that stood this forum out.

VB is really customizable so there is no telling what our forums will look like in the end.

QFT, I read #2 as avatars = images. Avatars are almost always moderated unless the forums allow only 'senior' members to create them or the forums are based on being NSFW already :).

At home I hit up a ton of forums that I'd never think of opening up at work. I doubt a website would ever get me terminated but having to explain it to my boss and HR would just suck.

The real kicker is about 90% of the time those forums (cars, garage, etc) are totally tame...just once in a while someone drops the 'f-bomb' of the image world.
