Better when they could pick the best and embed them here.

Custom Avatars! Everyone else on the flippen internet does it and has no problem.
FireFox + Unlinker FTW.

FF won't let me install it because it doesn't provide secure updates?

How do I get Unlinker?
Install Unlinker v1.2.5 Now »
If you're using Firefox 3 and use the link above, you'll need to change this setting before Unlinker will install.
Disable the "secure updates check": enter about:config into the address bar, right click on the page and create a new boolean value, name it extensions.checkUpdateSecurity and set it to false. If this makes no sense to you, please just use the AMO link below.

Make sure you create that entry.

install nightly tester tools add-on to allow forcing of all add-ons regardless of compatibility or security.

Can someone explain to me how the transition would work? How would all of the users and their postcounts get transfered to a new, totally different forum software?

Thank GOODNESS. If the webmaster puts some time into it, and I'm sure he will, then the general look and feel of these forums can be very easily carried over to VB forums. I kept wondering to myself why AT was paying hundreds of dollars a year for a forum software package that consistently had a broken search function, issues with PMs, random error pages for no apparent reason, and sometimes major crashes that would take down the entire forums system for hours or days at a time.

For those folks hoping for custom avatars and images in posts or signatures I can assure you right now that it's NOT going to happen. Yeah I'm not in charge but I know what kind of toilet the forums would become if it was allowed. And frankly the moderation crew doesn't strike me as a group that enjoys giving itself more work to do when there is no need for it and I don't blame them.

For those folks hoping for a more stable board that's what I believe we should get out of this switch. I've dealt with (and run) my fair share of VB forums on a regular basis and it is one of the more stable forum software packages out there at this time. Implemented correctly we should have a search engine that works correctly (HALLELUJAH!!) and a more stable forum overall.

Well I'm sure it's not a quick transition from Fusetalk to VB. I would assume the site would be down for quite some time which is probably a huge worry..

vBulletin has an import tool for fusetalk (and many other forums).

Hi guys ... I wanted to mention this in the PFI thread because I think it spoke to the issue at hand and I wanted to provide some information about what we are doing to fix certain issues of which we are aware. Specifically, vB allows the automated tracking of moderator warnings and vacations etc, which will go a long way to helping cut down on the workload our moderators have (currently we manually track all warnings and violations) -- and this will help to improve the experience for members and moderators alike.

I didn't really want to talk about it publically until I had something more to show you on it though. Some have pointed out that vB has an importer for FT, but this is for FT2 and not FT3 -- in addition we have customized our FT package to the point where we can't rely on their import feature and we must write our own software.

This is currently in development but we do not have a timeline and it may be a long process.

We want to make many changes including refining the way we manage and moderate, and to that end, we required some tools that, at this point in time, FuseTalk does not include. There are also some security issues that I'm not willing to discuss at this point that have also prompted our desire to move to a different forum package.

As for look and feel, it is my goal to make the new forums as clean and professional looking as possible. We haven't even started working on the UI yet as this will happen after we know our data can make it successfully into vB ... if you read into that a bit you'll see I'm hedgeing a bit there -- we may hit a problem that prevents the move from happening, but at this point things look certain enough for me to be comfortable talking about the fact that we are working on this.

As for what you guys need to know, we will do our best to import all the threads we currently have, archived and otherwise, as well as member info and post counts. We will keep as many avatars as we are able to (some of the avatars we have aren't exclusive to FT). We will try to minimize downtime when we eventually do try to switch, but at some point before that we will have a semi-closed beta open by invitation only ...

anyway that's about it for now.

I hate vB's search tools. On every forum I have visited that used vB, the only search option they had was a box that said "Enter your search terms here". They did not have exact phrase matching or a way to specify all/any of the search terms, or a way to exclude words. At least fusetalk could do that much.

Yeah, the features are there but the search never works. I would much rather have a simple search that works than an advanced one that doesn't.

Please God (Derek) NOOOOOOO!

don't say that...

Usually just by looking at someone's avatar I can tell right away whether or not I hate them, it will be easier to distinguish who the fucking tools are.
