NO. Jesus people. Fusetalk has supported images since day one. It's Anandtech that does not allow them.

They did not have exact phrase matching or a way to specify all/any of the search terms, or a way to exclude words. At least fusetalk could do that much.

Really?
Most of the vB forums I deal with have an advanced search option like this:

(that's vb 3.6.4)

Images can be disabled, and the ad posts can only be there if an admin allows them. I'd imagine they'd carry over as much of the style as possible, probably the avatars as well.

Many of the avatars are copyright to Fusetalk, but some used here (e.g. those created by mechbgon) I'm sure could be carried over.

Custom avatars could work if limited to the small size of the ones now, animation was disable, and transparency was required. It would a worthwhile experiment.

A quick solution for inline images would be a user preference option to enable or disable them. If disabled, you only see the link; if enabled, you see it inline. Default to disabled. Dunno if vBulletin has a feature like this.

Derek. If/when you move to VB, please leave things they way they are. No custom avatars or pics or any of that crap.

I am sure the team over at vB would be happy to assist on developing a script to import this version of FT.

The clean interface is one of the big reasons I've been here for as long as I have.

I agree. Anandtech is huge. AT moving from Fusetalk to vB would be good publicity for them.

What took they so long? AT forums is the only major forum (I visit) on the Internet that's not run on vBB.

Better when they could pick the best and embed them here.

Custom Avatars! Everyone else on the flippen internet does it and has no problem.

Rightclick + t = open picture in new tab.
Not that hard.

Unless you use IE, which moronically has no "new tab" hotkey from the right-click context menu,

No

Pics in posts I could live with, because the moderators can handle policing that. Pics in sigs would be a very bad thing. Custom avatars I'm kind of ambivalent about... it annoys me when people use animated GIFs.

Hmmmm... I hope they'd at least ban the use of embedded pictures to create your own emoticons, that shit gets old real fast. We're adults, we don't need a different animated smily to fit every situation.

Hi guys ... I wanted to mention this in the PFI thread because I think it spoke to the issue at hand and I wanted to provide some information about what we are doing to fix certain issues of which we are aware. Specifically, vB allows the automated tracking of moderator warnings and vacations etc, which will go a long way to helping cut down on the workload our moderators have (currently we manually track all warnings and violations) -- and this will help to improve the experience for members and moderators alike.

I didn't really want to talk about it publically until I had something more to show you on it though. Some have pointed out that vB has an importer for FT, but this is for FT2 and not FT3 -- in addition we have customized our FT package to the point where we can't rely on their import feature and we must write our own software.

This is currently in development but we do not have a timeline and it may be a long process.

We want to make many changes including refining the way we manage and moderate, and to that end, we required some tools that, at this point in time, FuseTalk does not include. There are also some security issues that I'm not willing to discuss at this point that have also prompted our desire to move to a different forum package.

As for look and feel, it is my goal to make the new forums as clean and professional looking as possible. We haven't even started working on the UI yet as this will happen after we know our data can make it successfully into vB ... if you read into that a bit you'll see I'm hedgeing a bit there -- we may hit a problem that prevents the move from happening, but at this point things look certain enough for me to be comfortable talking about the fact that we are working on this.

As for what you guys need to know, we will do our best to import all the threads we currently have, archived and otherwise, as well as member info and post counts. We will keep as many avatars as we are able to (some of the avatars we have aren't exclusive to FT). We will try to minimize downtime when we eventually do try to switch, but at some point before that we will have a semi-closed beta open by invitation only ...

anyway that's about it for now.

If you accidentally reset my post count to 0 during the movie, I wouldn't be mad. Just please don't lose woman2.gif. :(

speak for yourself, I was disappointed when we moved to FT many moons ago... lost that first registration date of when the forums first came out.

Seriously though, Fusetalk is not terrible most of the bad came from it's Cold Fusion code base and lack of modern features (most of which wouldn't fly here)....I can relate to the CF crap as I am trying to port a couple terribly written CF applications to asp right now. There are 100's of lines of code that simply never get used...it's freaking insane. I am by no means a php guru, but I can easily port php to asp and even write decent stuff in it (my personal sites are locked in to php as they don't have asp options at my host)

Personally I like the look and feel of fusetalk. I liked it better when you'd get an email for every reply rather than the last since you visited esp now with threads that disappear by the time you come back.

VB is the 'windows' of the forum world I feel. It's a great product but not unique in and of itself. If they allow for the custom avatars and sigs here (within rules) then it's going to be an ok move.

Fusetalk has a lot of features not being used here (at least at the level I can see). VB though is probably one of the most fully featured products out there and reliable. It's the Honda of the forum world. Many people buy one though and wish they got something different.

firefox actually has addon's which handles most of these.

I like more free for all forums like GFY, however; I know I can safely surf ATOT at work and not have to explain anything.

Someone posts up a pic of some well hung dude banging some 9 year old into next year that I pull up in my browser and on the server log would be a freaking nitemare to explain even if the post got pulled by mods.

Please God (Derek) NOOOOOOO!

don't say that...

Usually just by looking at someone's avatar I can tell right away whether or not I hate them, it will be easier to distinguish who the fucking tools are.
Yeah, but then you've got at least three kinds of morons or idiots:

1) People who use flashing, irritating, animated GIFs.
2) People who use obscene or NSFW avatars (I don't feel like seeing goatse 50x a day).
3) People who use a 2.5MB 2816x2112 picture as their avatar, oblivious to anything like filesize, image quality, or page load times.

So how the heck do you move everything over to VB without botching up stuff? I mean, totally different setups, are they even remotely compatible?

Will IMG tag be enabled?? please please let it be....
