Scientology has long recruited Hollywood luminaries. But the close friendship of these two men for nearly 20 years and their mutual devotion to Hubbard help explain Cruise's transformation from just another celebrity adherent into the public face of the church.

The bond between the star and his spiritual leader was evident last year when the two traded effusive words and crisp salutes at a Scientology gala in England. Calling Cruise "the most dedicated Scientologist I know," Miscavige presented him with the church's first Freedom Medal of Valor.

"Thank you for your trust, thank you for your confidence in me," Cruise replied, according to Scientology's Impact magazine. "I have never met a more competent, a more intelligent, a more tolerant, a more compassionate being outside of what I have experienced from LRH. And I've met the leaders of leaders. I've met them all."

As a matter of fact I have. I looked into LOTS or religions while growing up and also took a religion class in college (kinda forced into it).

Trust me; ALL religions have some weird writing and/or beliefs in their structure.

If you were married and your wife was a virgin but became pregnant. Would believe she was having the gods baby? Well if you are Christian your belief structure is based on that. As if that is not true then Jesus is not the lord?s son and his mother, Mary, is nothing more then a cheating whore.

I attended a seminary for 8 years. That's called extensive study.

They don't necessarily have something "weird" as much as something which requires belief. Scientology on the other hand has weirdness in it.

Whenever Scientology pops up, I get reminded of Hubology, endorsed by "Juan Cruz" and "Viki Goldburg" in Fallout 2. The only real use out of that organization was a couple of suits of hardened power armor, 2 points o luck from the Zeta scan, and fleecing them for experience. Hey, I'd join Scientology if I got a suit of hardened power armor!

Who the he11cares how long you've studied it?

Personally, I agree with him.

Aliens aren't weird to me, I believe in Aliens. If you calculate how many millions of galaxys there are, and how many billions of stars in each galaxy that have planets around them. Then calculate how many planets might support life, then how many have probably been around long enough to support evolved life to sentience. Even some of the most pesimistic calculations equate to millions of planets that could have sentient life. I'm a man of science and by numbers alone, find it difficlut NOT to believe in aliens.

Now granted, Scientology takes it WAY too far, and is obviously a cult. But like I said, at least I believe in aliens - which makes it just as credible in my eyes as the Virgin Mary actually being a Virgin. As if all of the plague's, and "magic" things that happen aren't just as weird as Xenu using Earth as a prison planet. They both sound like science fiction when read by a scientist.

No I can't. There is a difference between something I just don't believe and weirdness. I'm sure you can see that. You can tell me a fantastic story which I just find impossible to believe, but that does not necessarily make it weird. Scientology OTOH has weirdness in it that most of us can agree on.

The weirdness about Scientology is not their belief in alien life. I have problems with Christianity too, but that does not necessarily make it weird to me. There is weirdness and then there is disbelief.

Thanks you just proved another point. Whats the difference between a cult and a religion, the number of followers. A lot of mainstream faiths today were once called "cults" or other names. But if you said that today, you would be called a idiot or not knowing.

But I got to go. As a christian I have to go kill anybody that worked yesterday. But since preachers do most of their work on Sundays... does that mean i have to kill all of the "lords" messangers? Damm... thats "weird".
