Check out this guide - made me lower my saddle and it resolved all of my knee pain =)

http://bikedynamics.co.uk/kneepain.htm

Well, I dropped the saddle again a bit, from this:

to this:

(pedal position not identical, but the saddle moved a bit forward with the lowering anyway.)

Let's see whether it will help. Last time I dropped the saddle, it was worse, but maybe I need to take a break, and if it is a light tendinitis, have those tendons cool down a bit.

Just my opinion, but I still think you are too high. That being said, I think it's a good move in the right direction. Let your soreness subside and ride this for a week. If you get some improvement, I'd suggest lowering it another step and repeating until you are comfortable.

I agree with this. Thigh-calve angle at maximum extension should be 25-35 degrees. Also, you have no cycling tan!

My excuse for no tan: Been sickly all winter, and I didn't ride much this year yet, because of that knee. Had a nice bike tan last autumn :-/

Also, my guesstimate of the angle is around 25-30 degrees in the second image. I should check whether there's an angle measurement application available :D

edit: found a tool, it's 25 degrees at that height. I could probably drop the saddle another 3mm or so to get closer to 30 degrees.

I can also give my mileage back logged to when ever you want. But I figured you only wanted it as I go not from when the thread was started..

Yes, we would prefer to have mileage logged as you go, not back dating. Thanks!

19 miles on the trainer last night.

Was going to do another metric century, but the wind broke my spirits. Punked out and cut it short. 48 miles.

34 miles yesterday. Cold and windy, welcome to spring???

Sunnier today, but even colder and more windy. Sounds like I'll be on the trainer.

4 + 26 for today's commutes. Yesterday I did 3 + about 38 (accidentally paused the Garmin for a few miles) with some intense climbing efforts. So that is +71 for the last couple days. Legs are feeling it, I didn't get any real training in January or February.

Total: 46127

I signed up for a Strava challenge that starts tomorrow: http://app.strava.com/challenges/2014-specialized-spring-classics-challenge 787 miles or 1266 kilometers in 40 days. That works out to about 20 miles or 32 kilometers per day, a pretty reasonable goal that leaves some wiggle room for spells of bad weather.

Also, my guesstimate of the angle is around 25-30 degrees in the second image. I should check whether there's an angle measurement application available

It looks pretty high to me, too. Your ankle is extending there to help reach the pedals. Don't be afraid to experiment with it lower and see if it works for you.

3 miles to work, and 25 on the way home: http://app.strava.com/activities/124278585 Legs are feeling a little weary, that was 3 training-effort rides in three days.

The weather is supposed to be rainy for the next few days. Will my 20-miles-a-day Strava challenge motivation hold up, or will I wimp out? Details at 11

I dragged myself out of bed at 6AM (not my type of thing) and did 21 miles on the way to work (not raining) and 26 miles on the way home (actually partly sunny, no rain). I didn't have a ton of energy on the way home; usually I eat a sandwich a couple hours before a 25-mile ride home, but I was busy.

So +47 miles for...

Total: 46225

Tomorrow it's supposed to rain for real. I think I'll bust out my road commuter, which has the new SKS Longboard super-fenders, and try to get at least 25 miles on the way home regardless of the weather.

It did rain, and stopped raining before I headed home. But it was after 9PM by then :( so I went the direct route home and had supper. So +7 miles of basic commuting.

Managed some 34 miles yesterday, including 1500ft. vertical.
Slow, knee still painful, despite the saddle being quite low, and my having changed to black 0°) cleats.
Might be a posture issue from my desk chair though, because this time I felt a slight discomfort - very subtle compared to the post-ride irritation - even when prepping the bike and my legs. Also, on the bike, it seems to hurt less, when I'm going harder, and appears to flare up, when going to an easier gearing and increasing cadence.

Oh well, I'll keep trying different things.

The weather was decent today, mostly sunny and about 50F / 10C with some wind. I took my commuting mountain bike with just a trunk bag (no panniers = less air drag) and did a combined road and gravel ride:

http://app.strava.com/activities/125046773 for +34 miles.

I put a good effort into the gravel climbs, and the wind was mostly at my back, which helps even when climbing. So I got some good results considering my shallow training base. Four KOMs and a couple PRs.
