I did 11 miles Friday and Saturday. Today I went and climbed Mt. Spokane again, via the paved route this time. 83 miles on that ride: http://app.strava.com/activities/65496599

I hit my target time for the 3900ft Forker-to-summit segment precisely: 1hr 20min, which puts me 3rd on the Strava leaderboard, about 3 minutes behind the KOM. Considering I'm using a mountain bike rather than a 15-pound road-racing bike, I'll give myself a B+ :)

Did the following rides on the old MTB while on vacation with the family in Northern Michigan last week:

7/1 - 11 miles
7/2 - 13 miles
7/4 - 20 miles
7/6 - 33 miles

All were road miles in perfectly sunny, seasonable weather. Need to find a decent higher pressure road tire for 26" rims.

Total: 38,768

6 miles to work this morning.
Going to clean her up before leaving, delube/relube the chain, have a look at the front wheel and break alignment....and then ride out into the rain, for the 27-odd miles ride home.

At least I'll be cool on the uphill section?

going to add it to the total, if I survive.

Well, it didn't rain, I did the brake adjustement - now they squeak, but they break much better.
But I missed curfew, so I was stuck at the gate for 20 minutes, and decided that it was not possible to do the go-around, and so I took the direct way home for a total of 12 miles today.

Oh well, after almost two weeks of break, I'll just go gently at first :D

33 miles.
Two PRs (18 seconds on the first half of the climb, 2 seconds on the overall climb)
19 mph average.

Two mini-cramps.

Yeah, the break gave me plenty of rest, but them muscles really need regular abuse :D

On the way out for another training ride.

Aiming for 40mi + 1500ft

Photo from Wednesday, while locked in at work:

Topped out at 51.4 mph on that descent. Definitely in the realm of slightly scary, especially with all the blind corners, with switchbacks behind, and rough surface.

total (with thursday's ride)

25 miles Friday evening. Annual twilight ride around downtown Columbus neighborhoods. Blocked off traffic and police escort. Definitely a fun way to ride.

Rick,

Just to clarify:

Your post from 7/11 was 33 miles, and then 34 miles on 7/13 = total 67 miles.

So, should your total have been 38,847? (38,780 + 67).

Oopsie, thanks. Must have been still a bit brainpower deprived after the ride, and forgot about adding it in, after announcing I would do so :|.

Fixed it:

12 more miles today.

28km/h average on the way home. About 24 minutes for almost 6 miles across town. Considering the many red lights, not so bad.

And 12 once more.
Very nice pace (around 18.5 mph) on the way home. Considering that I went through town, and had to stop at several red lights, I'm quite happy with that.

I must admit my shame: I floss.

Now, this doesn't look super-shiny, but compared to before, it's like new ;)

Also put in 12 miles, and finally got KOM at the prestigious Simply Market downtown up-hill sprint between the lights. Considering that I had a standing start, there's still some room for improvement, so I might be able to set a proper KOM at below 28 seconds with some luck at the lights. Currently it's a three way draw.

I don't usually ride. I used to cycle a lot but that was almost 30 years ago. I've been running for the past 10 years or so and only ride a bike on occasion.

A year or 2 ago my brother gave me a Trek SL 1000. So, I've been cycling a little bit here and there. I just spent $120 on it. One of the little adjustment ends on a rear spoke disintegrated, possibly from salt water from Hurricane Sandy. The bike was kept high in my shed, but the water came about 3 ft high so I think it got to the bottom of the rim(s). I know it didn't get as high as the bottom of the chain. So, my buddy had his bike mechanic work on the bike for me. He respoked the rear wheel, changed the rear tube, changed the rear cassette, changed the chain, and did a maintenance on the bike overall.

In the interest of cross training, I rode 24 miles today. It probably wasn't the best idea to ride for 1:43 but, today and tomorrow are my rest days from running, so I figured I'll have time to recuperate. Tonight, I took the bike out of my trunk and put the wheels back on in order to pack it away. I decided to take a quick ride around the block. My legs were fine but, man, does my ass hurt!

Back from 10 days of vacation in Washington and Oregon. All the cyclists out there made me miss being on the bike. 21 miles yesterday after flying home on the red-eye.
