I was planning to do a decent ride after work today, but had to work late. Maybe tomorrow... for now, +3 miles.

I had to work late again, but I summoned the mental energy to go for a ride. This one was fast: http://app.strava.com/rides/15815111

32 miles
22.0mph average speed
and that was on this bike:

That's my XC-race mountain bike with the rigid fork, raceday wheelset, road pedals, and some semi-slick race tires that are suitable for pavement and gravel roads.

So I got 32 miles on top of my 3-mile commute, for...

74 miles: http://app.strava.com/rides/16017795 (plus 3 for the usual base commute). This was a mellow endurance pace, I was showing another rider the first half of the Midnight Century course. We're going out after work tomorrow so I can show him the second half.

I did about 52 miles today, 51 of them being another gravel/paved combo ride: http://app.strava.com/rides/16199751

But instead of the lightweight XC-race mountain bike, I took the commuter, loaded out to 52 pounds, with two saddlebags full of groceries and laundry. So it was a little more work than it looks like ;) I went with two XC riders who are planning to do the Midnight Century this Saturday, so we previewed a section of the MC course.

12 again yesterday,

let's see what the weather holds for this evening. Currently looks like my normal Friday "Long Way Home" tour is going to get the go ahead.

Where are you located that they have such a cool event as the Midnight Century?

Eastern Washington, here's the ride's site: http://www.midnightcentury.com

It's a grass-roots ride, people just show up and go. Last year was by far the largest turnout (38) and I was amazed that 34 of them finished.

A former co-worker told me about an ultra-endurance racer who occasionally made smiley-faces on the trail with rocks for the amusement of racers behind him. So the first year I did the Midnight Century, I started doing that with pinecones, and at the halfway point I added...

If we're going to have a turnout like last year, I'll need tear-off tags all the way around the page :sneaky:

Didn't quite achieve the 30 kph avg. I was aiming for yesterday. 26 miles in slightly less than 90 minutes, but over the 80 minutes I was aiming for. Felt fast going up hill, except for one part, towards 3/4s, where it either got steeper, or my resolve weakened for a moment. Otherwise I felt like I was doing more than 20kph pretty constantly..

Total with the 6 mile commute from the morning:

Plotted a ~70 mi course for tomorrow. Should be rather flat, with my usual 500 meter practice climb, and then possibly some hilly patches further on. Should be fun.

I'm suffering a little performance anxiety here... the Midnight Century is in 7 hours  and I'm hoping to beat my previous three years and finally finish before the official sunrise at 5:33AM.

The bike's prepped, I've got my energy drinks lined up, and my condition's not top-notch but should be adequate. Grrr, the waiting!

I have the SRM data for an exact mile count, but I have roughly 15,000 miles from last year and another 9,000 miles YTD. And, hell, another 12,000+ from the year before that. I just don't know how I feel about lumping on my miles as jsedlak did with his 4,684.
