Yeah well i emailed DFI 2 times askin about this kind of product and got no response back. I also wasn't willing to wait 1-2 or even 3 monthes for the product to be available in the market b/c i've waited long enough to build my system already. kinda upsets me though 🙁

Well who knows, I MIGHT end up getting it if i think its worth it, but so far my MSI is going good for me 🙂

The blown cap is easily identifiable even on the crappy washed out monitor I'm using at the moment.

To the OP, this really sucks. My board is an inexpensive Soltek model, I now feel compelled to inspect it very closely when I get home.

No problem for owners with windowed cases 😉,I did have 11 leaking caps on my ex-Epox 8KHA+ board which was working up until I retired it.

I replaced it with a DFI NF2 board,most of the motherboard makers are now using better quality capacitors,Abit was one of the first to upgrade to higher quality caps,DFI now uses 100% japanese quality caps,even MSI and Epox have started to go with better caps.


However even using the best capacitors does not mean they won`t leak,just less chance of doing so.

Leaking capacitor info (old news).

A lot less chance... emphasis on 'a lot.' You'd probably have to use a really poor powersupply, live around a faulty power grid, live in a home with poor wiring; and turn your computer on/off several hundred thousand times daily, while letting it sit in a hermetically sealed box. 😉

Yes a lot less chance,but as we know, PC hardware is not 100% perfect,even the best components can fail 😉.

Maybe after being burned-in for a couple weeks the problems will appear but so far after a week of gaming I haven't found a single issue, and thats with 2 6800Ultras with SLI enabled.

True, but it's not just an infection as you put it, the mobo manufacturers DELIBERATELY source their caps, and as in this ASUS example, they sourced the cheapest tat they could, whereas more reputable manufacturers are sticking with the tried and tested japanese cap brands, like Rubycon, Panasonic, Sanyo, etc.

0_o now I'm scarred. I just recently replaced an ECS KS75A mobo that had blow caps and finaly died because of it. I'm now using an ASUS nforce 2 untra something board. I hope the same thing doesn hapen because I wont have the money this time around to fix it for awhile with other expenses. I'm gona have to go back to use a POS P2 celeron if that hapens 🙁

Now i must say that ASUS is one of the best brands of boards you can get. I have been working for a computer shop for a while and hardley never see asus boards with blown caps. the ones we see the most are MSI.

Was!!! now I think EPOX MSI ASUS and those types are all the same (mid grade). I looked at frys where mobos are on display..only about 1/2 of caps on ASUS's boards are Jap Caps..certainly no aluminum caps. Besides Asus kinda week in bios and Overclcoking department latly not able to win a mobo roundup anyplace in over a year.

I defy anyone to show me an ABIT board made after NF7-S or a DFI board made after NFII ultra Infinity with leaky caps... (that's in the last two years)

IMHO (besides server boards like supermicro/tyan/iwill/Intel which are best)

1. DFI
2. ABIT
3. Gigabyte

Don't know what MSI mobo you've tried or what specs you're running, but I've been using MSI mobos for custom builts and my own system since 2000 and have never had a problem w/ any of them. Blown caps? Not w/ my MSI mobos.

I know my Gigabyte 6600GT uses Sanyo caps. Have yet to check the mobo, also Gigabyte made. Zebo, you rated Gigabyte as 3rd, but they deliver the best bang for the buck among the three you listed, don't they?

Is it safe to say that with relation to cost, Gigabyte is near the top?

price/performance Epox is top (that's why I own it😉). Hell the gigabyte 939 board was $200 for months, signifigantly more than other NF3 939 competitors, before they came with ultra..so you cant rank them a good p/p brand IMO..

But gigabyte AFAIK, least uses jap caps.. Rubycon on high power.. Sanyo on others...

F uck ASUS. I know Abit had a huge problem in the past, but I would buy Abit boards these days, they started using all high quality japanese caps ever since this fiasco came to light, they call it "BulletProof technology", which is basically a long winded way of saying "We don't use s hit caps anymore".

When I RMAed this board last year Asus replaced like 6 or 8 caps (even though they claim there wasn't any problem with the board). So they might be doing that with any RMAed boards manufactured from 2003 onwards.

I read this article and checked my INTEL D865 GBF/PERC board and I have about 7 blown capacitors, half of which are oozing brown stuff from the top. All the K ones are fine, it's only the X ones that have problems.

I bought the INTEL board b/c I want stability over anything. So much for that.

I'll post pics tonight. You won't believe the mess... good times. godamnit.

holy crap intel sucks big time. I paid the $25 and they don't even cross ship motherboards. My entire business is tied into this computer. Since my business is building and fixing computers, Intel just lost a business partner.
