Ok... so does that mean we will see the board soon? I don't see it on the ASUS page (unlike the A8N-E which is there). And they say it is "available" but I don't see where?

I hate PR crap with nothing to back it.

BTW, my email came back with a link to available products. Thanks ASUS, that answered my question about this mysterious unavailable board.

So you got no word on the A8N-E Premium? Please post what response you got back.

What this new board (and the article) implies is that there is a lot of ground to cover regarding SLI and the technology is constantly being refined. What happens when the ATI version comes out? Are we going to be in some DVD-R/DVD+R like format war?

Maybe the A8N-E Premium will be the safest option...if it ever arrives!

I just got my new system from Mesh (see post above) which was supposed to have the A8N-E motherboard. Opened it up and was delighted to see they had put in the SLI version - although shame I bought an ATI card

(sorry about double post)

Nope. It was just an email that said, 'here are our products we have' with a link to the USA ASUS site and that if I had any further questions, to contact RMA. Nothing worth posting about. I basically got the cold sholder.

Good effort mate! I am still awaiting a response from Mesh regarding their advertising the A8N-E as having firewire. I might mail them again!

What do you think about GA-K8N Ultra-9 board? I am planning to combine it with GV-NX66128DP Turbo graphic card. Both seems to have passive cooling. And might be even available soon.

Wasnt this the board that was discussed earlier in this thread? On one picture it showed passive cooling, then on another it was active? The overclockers picture shows it as active. It is though well priced. Myself, I have never had any problems with Gigabyte boards....

Also this board has the daughter board power supply mod thingy? This has an active fan on it as well if I am not mistaken...

It shows as passive on Gigabytes site. I like how the PCIex16 slot is underneath the PCIex1 slots. I hate the slot layout on this Asus. How am I going to install my new soundblaster pcie soundcard when it comes out if my Zalman video cooler is blocking the pciex1 slots since they are underneath the pciex16 slot? I want the Gigabyte board Ultra 9 🙁

Ahh its the GA-K8NXP-9 that has the daughter board power thingy. This board shows its active though the feature set is identical to the GA-K8N Ultra-9. Has anyone used the GA-K8N Ultra-9 to confirm if it is passive?

Mark

Have I been living in the dark ages or something, I didnt think I would ever find a replacement for my Sapphire Radeon 9800 Ultimate with its heatsink and heatpipes. I didnt think there was a PCI-E GPU out there that was passive, and low and behold there is a load of them on the Gigabyte site.....

Correction to my earlier post it was the GA-K8N on overclockers not the GA-K8N Ultra 9! I cant find anywhere in the Uk that lists the Ultra 9....

XPCGear supposedly has it for $139.99 (although there's no availability indicator, so who knows if they actually have stock). I haven't kept up with this thread (so forgive me if someone's already mentioned this), but I'm kind of disappointed to see the same loud-arse chipset fan as the SLI version. I guess you could always get one of those Zalman passive heatsinks? Also, I noticed this baby has a PCIe x4 slot. Does anyone know why these slots exist (i.e. will more advanced sound cards or video capture/TV tuner/HDTV tuners use the interface)? I've narrowed my next board down to the A8N-E and the EPoX EP-9NPA+ Ultra. The EPoX's chipset heatsink looks quite a bit bulkier (more aluminum), so that leads me to believe the fan may spin at a lower rpm, but it doesn't have a PCIe x4 slot.

mdahc:

If you read the openning description, it says "Retail Pre-Order".

And I do believe the PCIe will support those type of devices in the future.

Hey guys I was at Fry's Electronics today and they had the GA-K8N 9 in stock and it does indeed have the big passive cooler on the chipset. So I'm getting the Ultra 9 will have it too like it shows on GA's website 🙂

I think I'll wait for the A8N-E after all. Getting annoyed w/ ZZF, they won't refund for a doa mobo.. I'll fight them thru my cc. Mean while I'll just sit tight an wait for the A8N-E. As soon as it's available I'll buy it..

Regards,
Jose
