They also have a A8V-e Deluxe motherboard listed. Looking at the part numbers, the part number indicates that it's a A8N-e. I think it maybe that the tech specs are wrong. Jose let us know..

If its of any interest, I have a new magazine and Mesh Computers refer to both the a8n-e and the a8ne-fm on their systems, and incidently both are stated to have firewire....

If this picture is correct, there's no firewire (IEEE 1394), but there's a spot for it. Look at the right-most corner of the picture, by the last PCI slot -- there's a spot labeled IE1394 where a header would normally go. Also, right next to the parallel port, there's an empty area where the firewire would usually go -- maybe they're saving it for the deluxe/premium version?

It appears in this picture:

http://www.uac.co.jp/news/daily/050210/img/a8n_e_big2.jpg

that there are places for 4 additional chips for the Premium version.

(3 to the left of the left of the slots (including a small one to the left of the 2nd PCI-express 1x and one to the right of the 1st PCI)

I can think of two- SATA RAID and IEEE1396. Maybe they're throwing an extra gigabit ethernet port on there too. What's the 4th chip for?

> No serial port?

That's fine with me! As long as they're at it, get rid of the parallel port too. How about the floppy drive connection? In a year or two let's get rid of PCI slots and PATA connectors. Good riddance! :)

ASUS A8N-E Mainboard - DDR400, GB LAN, IEEE 1394, SATA, PCIEX16

Taken from Mesh web site....I will mail them and see if it is an error....

Mark

p.s. I wont be buying it if it hasnt got firewire. This is surely standard kit nowadays and removing it is going backwards...

Just spoke to attacom on the phone, they said the board I ordered is the NF4 ultra and not the via mobo..

So I should get the mobo wednesday or thursday this week. I'll let everyone know if it's the correct board or not & what's my impression..

Jose

Thanks Jose! I was going to get the ASUS A8N SLI, but since I won't use SLI, I wonder how this board fairs.

Just spoke to atacom again, guess what ? They don't have the mobo.... :(
And they don't know when they will have it in stock.. this sucks big time. I guess I'll have to go w/ the Chaintech mobo...

Jose

Hey jose,
why not just go with the A8N-SLI? It's very similiar to the AN8-E but with a few extra features (Firewire, SLI) and a much prettier PCB. ;)

Most importantly, you can find it for less than $168.

i think the a8n-e looks a lot cooler than the a8n-sli. More retro, classic ASUS, than the predictable black plastic sleeziness of the a8n-sli, if you ask me.

ChineseDemocracyGNR,

I wanted to orignally go w/ the A8N-SLI , but there are soo... many problems that I've been reading. I believe that 1/2 of the problems are user created, but that still leaves alot of issues to be resolved..

What's the A8N thread up to ? 1 million post ;p

I have the VNF4 in my hands right now, I'll test it out and see. I may still go the A8N-SLI route...

Jose

Well I just rma'd the Chaintech mobo, didn't even open it because of the voltage problem. It can't do volts between 1.45-1.6

So I just ordered the A8N-SLI.. Man , I think I will have owned every NF4 mobo, made ... ;)

Jose

It looks that way. Why have you varried so much in your motherboard and video card selections?

Let us know how the A8N-SLI works out for you? Did you get the Deluxe or just the regular version?

Well, this thread really got me interested in this board. I am trying to build a very silent PC, so this board is exactly what I want. I can easily replace that stupid chipset fan and have the perfect board... I don't need two GPUs or 8 hard drives. I need a stable board. I have relied on ASUS for a long time and don't plan on changing that anytime soon.

That said, I was looking at getting the A8N-SLI. That was, until, I read the latest review on this site and it blasted the board. Mentioned how the "Premium" title was held for the top-of-the-line boards. So I definitely want this board... but will we ever see it?

If someone can provide an email address, I will definitely email ASUS. I am having a little trouble finding it.

Edit: You know, at this point I'll just take the A8N-e.

And we are praying for a passive chipset cooler on the nForce4 chip, like the old pictures of the Premium board show...
