Asus 23.6" LCD for $230 + free shipping.

I have the 21.5" 1920x1080 2ms GTG model. It's a very good panel for what it is. Bright, clear, HDMI..

It's a TN panel. Bad for viewing up or down images other wise great for a computer monitor you are going to look directly. Some back light bleeding. Goes away if you turn the brightness down considering it's too bright in the first place.

I bought my 21.5" for $200 and $230 for 24" is a steal. I wish I waited for this monitor instead. 🙁 It was $80 difference between these monitors when I bought mine.

Any ghosting during gaming?
Just curious.
I'll find out on my own as I just now pulled the trigger on this deal...

Thanks for the replies.

What's wrong with TN panels? For most people it's not a problem other than you want to watch videos from all angles. Besides TN panels have far superior response time.

I'm in the same boat, except I bought it for my brother.

Very bright and lively panel. Yeah, it's TN, but for that price what did you expect? Unless you're looking to sink $300 for a 20" or $500+ for a 22-24", you're not going to get a decent MVA, PVA, or IPS panel.

Can't do any sort of graphics work (webdesign, photoshop etc.) since colors don't stay constant across the screen.

Er...what percentage of professional arteests are using a $230 24" screen?

And, I use photoshop on my crappy 18" TN panel. Aside from my huge body of work with Pixar and Disney, it is fine. 🙂

For anyone that isn't in the pro category, TN or KZ or STA panels are fine.

LOL! Yes, the whole "can't do web page design" on a TN monitor is a joke. Who uses their computer from a 150 degree angle? TN monitors are fine - I have a 24" PVA monitor at Home (Soyo) and a monster 28" TN display I use at work. Even at 28" inches, the TN display is fine for my "design" work. The main benefit I see with the Soyo montior is a better contrast in dark scenes, but I don't think that has anything to do with TN versus PVA. Overall, TN displays are the best value. Most TN displays are now 8-bit and have great color, and the contrast ratios have also improved.

As for the OP, I think that monitor is a great deal.

looks like a TN panel also, I'd steer clear.

Also, to the OP, please chime in on your thoughts after you get the monitor, and what you upgraded from.

I bought the Acer 22" last Black Friday for $149 from NE with free shipping and was very happy with it. $230 for a 24" is not bad at all although I already have the Soyo Topaz S which is outstanding and huge but tends to overheat. I had to put a little fan behind the unit to keep it cool and dying out on me.

The only caveat is the egg's return policy (4 dead pixels aint gonna cut it). I buy everything but screens from them.

That is the only thing possibly holding me back...

I wanted it when it came out. Price is great. Free shipping. Good reviews (lots of NO dead pixels reviews). I think I'm going for it

It's more like 8 dead pixels...and yes, either way the policy sucks.

I've bought about 4 LCD's from newegg and none of them have had dead pixels. But even if they did, I'm pretty sure newegg's staff would give me a pretty big discount on my next order for complaining.

(I got $20 off my next order for an led in a fan dying after a month or so)

I'm a professional photographer that uses a 24" TN LCD daily. If you buy a quality panel and calibrate it, you'll be fine.

If only it were a 205BW! I have one, and want two...can't bring myself to run dual monitors of different sizes. 😛

Text
* Poor vertical viewing angle (especially from below)
* Poor screen uniformity and stability (white can look "dirty"), which can reduce perceived contrast
* Lateral viewing angle is not great (darker/lighter details can appear and disappear depending on the angle)
* Lack of true 8-bit DAC causes color tinting, fringing, and burning in gradients and poor reproduction of darker tones
* Very unlikely to get image persistence
* more prone to backlight bleeding and QC (quality control) problems than other panel types.

OK.
I'm currently using a Samsung 191T (19") that I bought from New Egg about 5 years ago for $600!!!
When you think about the time I spent using it - it was still a great deal 🙂

Hey, I am still using a 191t+ as my secondary - from NewEgg in April '04 for more money than I care to remember 😛

They are close enough 😛

Anyone else? My 22" is just too small to play split-screen on with my 360...

I'm thinking of one of these because of the 1080 res. I'm currently using a Dell 2000FP which has been (and still is) a great monitor. But I watch a little TV on the computer when I don't want to fire up the big screen so the native 1080 would be nice. The other problem I have with with the 2000FP is that at 1600x1200, everything is getting a bit to small for my aging eyes. I would think that a 24in screen at 1080 would give me significantly larger fonts/icons without resorting to resizing in Windows. Anyone have any experience with the icon/fonts sizing on this monitor?
