Yeaaaaaaah...." They may also be under-reported for political reasons."

You think???

Dunno, I do know that our murder rate is about 10X that of Austria or Norway and about 5X that of most 1st world nations.

You know I'm not the most ardent 2A supporter, but I wonder what Brian Frosh's opinion of the Virginia Tech shooting is, given that it was perpetrated with handguns.

How does Maryland's law define assault weapons?

I look at it this way: better to pursue good rather than perfect. Given that the worst mass shootings in the US in recent years (and by extension, the worst in US history) have involved AR-15s, it's safe to say that semi-auto rifles are
And aside from well publicized mass shootings, most armed murders are done with handguns. By that logic all handguns should be banned/restricted. As despicable as these mass shootings are, assault rifle ban is nothing more than a feel good measure that hides the problem from the view. Say you ban these so-called assault rifles, say these assault weapon mass shootings go away. Say you saved 100 lives per year, now you infringed on the 2A of millions of law abiding gun owners, and you did nothing to address 15,000 handgun murders.

The assault weapon ban is treating the symptom instead of curing the cause. I'd rather see us talking universal healthcare which would provide way to address mental issues for everybody, I'd rather have us find a way to improve economic situation of the lower class as well as end war on drugs which would help with gang violence, I'd rather stop the divisive rhetoric that breeds violence against each other. But no, instead we'll just put a band aid on the problem and call it done. Thanks, but no thanks. That is not the right approach to the current problem.

The problem is that gun advocates frequently treat the situation as if you can't apply that Band-Aid and address the root causes. Like you're supposed to leave a wound gushing blood while you perform surgery on it.

That and, of course, many of the people who are staunch gun advocates are also against the social fixes: they hate universal health care, revel in hurting low-income families and support an Attorney General who wants to escalate the war on drugs like it's 1987. They create the social problems and refuse to deal with the consequences.

It's kind of funny when you think about it: no matter what, a real solution to gun violence invariably means voting for Democrats. The Republicans as they are today have no interest whatsoever in fixing the situation.

Just waiting for Kennedy to retire and Ginsburg to retire also.

Just waiting for assault rifles to be banned.

And for clarence thomas to resign after the 2018 elections.

Oh and for trump to resign.

I prayed to my god his noodliness and he will grant my wishes.
Praise ramen.

Keep cherry picking sentences out of the ruling and continue to look like a fool.
From Scalia's own mouth, Skippy
Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia said Sunday that there are “undoubtedly” limits to a person’s right to bear arms under the Second Amendment, but that future court cases will have to decide where to draw the line.

We live in a competitive system of inequality. Some are born with a silver spoon in their mouth and others brain damaged from drugs or malnurishment, where the wealth of the winners is based on the creation of armies of I me me mine sleep-walking lust driven sheep, why wouldn't you expect there be a high murder rate? People are just things to walk over, pills to cap and pop to ease the pain.

Our laws need to evolve to keep up with the growth in population and mental illness. The days of our forefathers sane citizenry are long gone. Too many losers with guns. Time not to fix mental illness but take the guns away. One bunch of frightened cowards trying to take the toys away from a second group just the same should be barrels of fun to watch.

as a non-citizen, i disagree .. the 2A states, paraphrased, "US citizen can keep weapons for the specific purpose of revolting against the government" because the intent was that, if the British tried to take over again, the citizens could start a new revolution, and any attempt to disarm them was seen as an attempt to prevent this revolution.

Which works .. if you are still in that period of time where a revolution is ok. Which isn't anymore.

So BSole - are you suggesting that our Murder rate is due solely to guns/rifles, and only guns/rifles? Not our current society, our mental health issues, knives, cars, or any other tool used in a murder? Since the thread is about 'rifles" - not murder rates that are based on all murders. How is your comment relevant to the thread, which is about assault rifles, especially since murders with a rifle is lower than murder with a knife? Here is the FBI 2016 stats:

well before the law, assualt weapons required a wait

now you just put a heavy barrel on an ar15, do the 4473, and walk out with it
there is a list of guns that are too evil to own
the m1a is on it, but the ar10 is not
the ak is on it, but the mini 30 is not

its really a laughable law if you read it

oh and frosh is an idiot, proven fact

the case mentioned was appealed to SCOTUS, who declined to take it on. just like they declined the california appeal

eventually they will have to rule on something
Not so sure. I think they are scared because they know the truth.

Unfortunately - the 2nd amendment states very clearly - an armed "militia". Militia is a term for military armed soldier. So ya, it doesn't state the right for an armed farmer, hunter, not sportsman, etc. So, as weird as it sounds the second amendement clearly protects ALL GUNS (weapons) used for war - period. The government or anybody else cannot ( judges, presidents, etc.) pick and choose which gun, which clip, which scope, etc. So, to legally change this a constitutional amendment would need to be passed. So, lets get to it.
Thank you. Anti 2A people need to get to work on a constitutional amendment.
