Who needs a Conroe865PE ? I will sell the second one of the two I bought.

It's not at my home now, I will receive them soon.

I ask 110 US$ standart shipping included. If you want faster shipping, add the $$$ :)

Even more Conroe + DDR + AGP goodies from Gigabyte. Thanks to vailr, he pointed me in the direction of the GA-8I865PE775-G-RH (rev. 4.9) (link. Doing a google search for that main string also yeilded the rev 2.0 (link) (no Conroe support), and the rev 3.0 (link). Not sure what the difference between the rev 3.0 and rev 4.9 boards are, or why they would need two hardware revs to support the Conroe, unless they screwed up the old rev. (Or perhaps it is to add support for the quad-core, we can only hope I guess.)

But the good news is that this is a full-size ATX, with 865PE chipset, supporting the Conroe! And it seems to be a recent release, not discontinued, like ASRock's board is. I just noticed, these boards also sport gigabit LAN! So they are actually better than the ASRock boards.

Ok, the difference so far seems to be:
rev 2.0 - ALC653 sound, Marvell 8001 gigabit
rev 3.0 - ALC655 sound, Marvell 8001 gigabit
rev 4.9 - ALC655 sound, Realtek 8110SC gigabit
All seem to sport the ICH7, not ICH6, which is also interesting. No official mention of support for 1066 FSB on the web pages, which is also interesting.

NewEgg does not yet carry this board. Please contact them, and ask them to carry this board!

Actually, its still the old ICH5 Southbridge according to the manual. ICH6 and later DMI isn't directly compatible with the older hub interconnect of previous generation chipsets (at least not without some middleman logic chip). Someone just confused the two when writing out the specs.

If it were ICH7, it would feature HD audio instead of AC97, probably more than two SATA ports, SATA 3Gb/s instead of 150MB/s, and the second IDE/ATA port would have to be provided by a third-party controller chip (e.g. JMicron, ITE, or the like...which there is none to be found in the photo or driver downloads).

Hey,

i just bought a ConRoe865PE and tried to put it in my Case but the wires that connect the front panel dont match whats on the board.

At the moment on the Case i have:

Power SW which is double
Power Led which is single
Reset SW which is double
Ground which is single
HDD Led which is double

and as you know the MOBO has:

Power btn - single
Power Led - double
Reset - single
Ground - single x2
HDD (+) - single
HDD (-) - single

Does that mean I cant use the Case with your MOBO or is there a way i can plug them in.....And if I cant use it can you recommend a Case and PSU please.

Thanks guys

You must be looking at things the wrong way. The Power and Reset switches are aligned with a necessary ground pin that goes along with them, in a two-pin configuration. They are not single pins. Look at the manual, it's pretty clear. Just connect the two-pin connectors from the case, to the mobo Power+Gnd, or Reset+Gnd. I don't think it even matters in which way they are aligned.

Btw, I just got my shipment of two Conroe865PE mobos, thanks to vailr.

Edit: Just noticed something nice. There's a sticker on the mobo box that says "Support Quad-Core Kentsfield CPU". The little sticker on the box shows "CONROE865PE R3.0/A/ASR". So it looks like I have a rev 3.0 board, supporting quad-core CPUs.

Can anyone that already has one of these boards up and running, tell me what kind of voltage/frequency adjustments are possible. Is there a Vcore adjust? How high does the FSB setting go?

Hi Virtual Larry. I just got my Conroe865PE and E4300 last week. I'm currently running a E4300 at 2.4 GHz.

Max FSB = 300. So you should buy a E4000 serie.
Voltage is simple: Low and High. No precise adjustment.

Has anyone running the ConRoe865PE used mismatched memory? The manual that came with the board says it should be identical memory, blah, blah, blah(same manufacturer, same size, etc. I have 4 total sticks of Ultra DDR 400 1GB, Centon DDR 400 1GB, Ultra DDR400 512mb and some other DDR400 512mb. If I can use them all together, it would give me 3GB on my e6400 processor, but accoding to the manual, they must all be the same.
Thoughts?

@Showtime89:
Whichever sticks have the slowest CAS speed rating would tend to be the baseline for the remaining sticks.
Put the 2x 1 GB sticks in alternate slots 2 & 4, and the 2x 512 MB sticks in slots 1 & 3.
Only when installed in equal-sized pairs, is "dual-channel memory" mode enabled.
Usually, the initial bootup screen will indicate whether or not "dual-channel memory" mode is enabled.

So I should be able to get 3GB of RAM from it? running the e6400 and the jumper at 1066fsb? Question. Why not the 1GB sticks in 1 and 3 and the 512MB in 2 and 4. Just curious.

Ensuring that "dual-channel memory" mode is enabled would be more important, performance wise, than increasing the total from 2 Gb to 3 Gb.
So just experiment and see what works, I guess.
Since I don't own that board, can't advise on jumper position.
BTW, there's a mention of this board using the QX6800 processor here:

Got everything set up tonight and powered up. Case fired up, fans and HD have power, DVD drive ejects, but nothing to the motherboard. Is there a LED on the board showing it has power? Gonna check all wiring tomorrow. p.s. CPU fan turns on with the other stuff and it's powered off the motherboard, so the board is getting power, now why won't it "Turn on?"

BTW, board is ASRock ConRoe865PE
Intel Core 2 Duo E6400
Visiontek ATI x1300 XGE AGP 512MB
Ultra PC3200 DDR 1GB
PPA INTL 1394 PCI Card
USB 2.5 5 port card.
Rosewill CPU Cooler RCX-Z775-SL
LiteOn 20x Lightscribe DVD burner
JSP-TECH H-14 Case(black)
StarPower ATX 600W PSU

Edit: Changed the FSB jumper to normal and reinserted the video card and it worked. Now I just have to get all these bios settings to cooperate.

Do I need to load SATA drivers using F6 on the ConRoe865PE or are they built in? If I need to load them, where can I find them?

Alright, I FINALLY got my Conroe865PE board up and running. No serious problems thus far, but there are some issues with overclocking. There is a FSB adjust, up to 300Mhz, but no Vcore adjust! To top things off, it appears that this board seriously undervolts. My E4400 chip is rated at 1.325v, and the vcore in the health monitor and in CPU-Z is reading as low as 1.27v. Gah. So I'm not stable at 3Ghz, testing 2.9Ghz right now. If only it ran the voltage correctly. Somehow, I seriously doubt that this board could handle a Pentium-D CPU, due to the undervolting issues. I have yet to update the BIOS, so perhaps things will improve. Gah, CPU-Z just dropped to 1.248. But my CPU is supposed to be 1.325v! This royally sucks for overclocking.

Temps are 60C during dual-core Orthos run (Large FFTs) at 2.9Ghz. Seems stable at that speed so far. So I can't complain too badly, though 3.0Ghz would have been sweet. With a better mobo, I bet this chip could do 3.6Ghz.

Updated the BIOS to 1.70, no different in the undervolting or overclocking ability.

Looks like 291Mhz and up fail Orthos. 290Mhz seems stable, but I'm going to back off 5Mhz just to be safe and certain. Darn, 290 failed after 30min. Down to 286. 285 seems stable to Orthos.

:cool:I recently built a computer around the AsRock ConRoe 865PE. Last week I upgraded from a P4 571 CPU to an E6600. I also went from 2GB (4x512MB) of HyperX DDR 400 memory to 2GB (4x512MB) of Team Xtreem DDR 600 memory. Last but not least I replaced my ATI Radeon X850 XTPE with a HIS Radeon X1950 Pro 512 IceQ3. I pressed the Power button and ....NOTHING!...............I spent four days troubleshooting each individual part in the system and after wasting all that time, I took my system completely apart and built it all over again. I pressed the Power button and .....Success!!!

Whatever happened to this review? Did it simply not get posted, just because the board never showed up for official release in the USA? That's too bad, I'm sure that quite a few international folks (as well as those of us importing this board) would have been interested in an official AT review of this board. Please?

I managed to finally transfer over my Win98se, W2K SP2, and XP SP1 OSes onto my new C2D rig. They wouldn't boot, not even to the 2nd-stage bootloader. I don't know exactly why, but I did a repair install with a W2K SP4 and XP SP2 disc, and got a free upgrade in the process.

Some wierdness though - with a Promise Ultra100TX2 PCI IDE controller installed, the mobo bios no longer shows the CPU Freq adjust. It's simply not there. I don't know how or why, but it becomes inaccessable. Something to consider.

Win98se doesn't run right with a C2D and 2GB of RAM either. It gives me errors "not enough memory to run program". :(
